'Poop cruise' passengers reveal major problem with Netflix doc as 'faeces lasagne' incident revealed

Netflix's 'Poop cruise' documentary has come under fire from passengers who were actually on it

Passengers from the infamous Carnival 'poop cruise' have revealed a major problem with the new Netflix documentary.

Netflix covered the horrific cruise in the latest instalment of their Trainwreck series that has seen docs about Travis Scott’s Astroworld tragedy and various other true crime stories.

The doc called Trainwreck: Poop Cruise has shocked Netflix viewers across the board.

It follows the 2013 incident in which a Carnival Cruise Line ship became flooded with faeces after a fire knocked out its power and left passengers stranded out at sea for five days.

This was so severe it eventually led an incident referred to as ‘faeces lasagne’ in the documentary.

Passengers who were on board the vessel have been critical of the new documentary, however, suggesting it doesn’t cover some of the most shocking elements of what actually happened.

One passenger took to X to share their concerns, posting under @T_Oh_Double_D_. He shared personal pictures from the cruise to prove he was a passenger on it before sharing his thoughts on the Netflix documentary, stating that it didn’t get to the core of the issues.

The passenger said when asked about the Netflix doc: “Everything said was true… but it focused heavily on the bathroom problems…. There was A LOT more detail to this nightmare that was left out.

“Food poisoning, running out of water, food hoarding, damn near every time they gave us an update it was wrong, etc, etc…”

He is not the only member of the poop cruise to have hit out either.

Tay Redford was 12 at the time of the cruise and has spoken to the New York Post to criticise the Netflix doc.

Reford, now 24, said: “I’ve only seen the trailer, but from what I saw, it doesn’t even scratch the surface… It’s just Carnival workers telling the story. It’s really hard watching the documentary come out and seeing all these people making money from it.

“To me, it feels like they’re profiting off something that deeply affected and traumatized me.”

The experience has been described as traumatising by several passengers, with one woman who was on the cruise telling the Daily Mail that she had been diagnosed with PTSD as a result of the incident.

This involved poop filling the floor and tent cities breaking out in which people fought due to drunkenness and, in some cases, engaged in public sex.

One of the most shocking aspects the documentary reveals is the ‘poop lasagne’ that was created by those unwilling to use the sanitary bags handed out.

This then led to people defecating on top of already full toilets, putting toilet paper on top of that, then continuing that process until one worker described it as being like a sh*tty version of the Italian ship.

A Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson said in response to the Netflix documentary: “The Carnival Triumph incident over 12 years ago was a teachable moment for the entire cruise industry.

“A thorough investigation following the incident revealed a design vulnerability which was corrected and led Carnival Cruise Line to invest more than $500 million across our entire fleet in comprehensive fire prevention and suppression, improved redundancy, and enhanced management systems, all in support of our commitment to robust safety standards.

“This is in addition to our vigorous Health, Environmental, Safety and Security (HESS) protocols that guide the entire Carnival Corporation fleet as we maintain our commitment to industry leadership in this area.

“We are proud of the fact that since 2013 over 53 million guests have enjoyed safe and memorable vacations with us, and we will continue to operate to these high standards.”
