Carnival cruise passengers given important update about sleeping with balcony door open

Leaving the doors open on your balcony has caused quite a stir

So, you've got your bags packed, and you're ready for your cruise line holiday. But, there's more to it then you might have realised.

Much like when traveling to Spain and other countries, there are some rules in place that you need to follow when on a cruise ship holiday.

Many of the rules are straight forwards. Don't bring drugs onboard, don't bring on weapons, and don't hang upside down pineapples on your door signalling you're up for an orgy. Simple really.

Sadly, not all of the rules are that straightforward to follow. First there was confusion around the ban of fans on dancefloors while on Carnival Cruise Line ships, and now doors are giving passengers some grief.

The confusion came after some passengers complained to the cruise line's brand ambassador, John Heald, complaining that some 'inconsiderate passengers' were sleeping with their balcony doors open.

In their complaints, they continued to complain that by leaving the balcony doors open, they were also shutting off the air conditioning for neighbouring cabins.

In his usual fashion, Heald took to Facebook to address these complaints, saying: “That is not true. Regardless of those who say it is, I have confirmed with the highest level, the chief engineers on the ships, and they confirm it only turns off the air conditioning in your cabin and does not affect those around you.”

Addressing the issue further, Heald followed up by saying that some passengers simply enjoy listening to the sound of the ocean while in their cabin, which of course they need their balcony doors open in order to do so.

He did, however, raise one issue about leaving your balcony door open that he asked passengers to consider.

He reminded passengers that the sea air and swirls can, of course, cause the doors to slam close, which could make a loud bang that would be inconsiderate to your neighbours.

Instead of missing out on the soothing sounds of the ocean, instead he suggests that passengers should consider putting something in the doorway to ensure it doesn't slam and disturb their neighbours.

Leaving the door open isn't the only balcony debate that Heald has had to deal with recently either.

After a passenger recently dragged their mattress onto their balcony, Heald had to also chime in and remind passengers that this wasn't allowed either: "You cannot take your mattress and put it on your balcony. Don’t do it. Just don’t."
