100% rated Netflix series with 'best cliffhanger ever’ has fans demanding it's brought back

The show stars Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore

A Netflix series starring Timothy Olyphant, the star of the hit new series Alien: Earth, was deemed to have the ‘best cliffhanger ever’, and fans are demanding it's brought back.

Between Justified, The Mandalorian, and now Alien: Earth, Olyphant has starred in a number of hit shows.

Whilst a TV prequel to Alien set on Earth may not sound like the most enticing concept, the reviews alone will do away with those worries as it currently sits at 96 percent.

Many fans have compared it to Andor, and Timothy Olyphant has received particular praise for his role in the new show.

Those are not, however, his only hit shows, as it leaves out a Netflix cult classic.

Called Santa Clarita Diet, it stars Olyphant alongside Drew Barrymore as Joel and Sheila, a husband and wife who have to adapt their life a bit when Sheila becomes a zombie.

With an impressive overall score of 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the third and final season sits at a perfect 100 percent on the platform.

Add to that a respectable 7.8 on IMDb and it is clear the series is well loved by critics and fans alike.

First released in 2017, the other two main cast members Skyler Gisondo and Liv Hewson have also gone on to star in massive projects since, appearing in Superman and Yellowjackets respectively.

Sonia Saraya of Variety said in their positive review of the show: “What is genuinely great about Santa Clarita Diet is just how surprising each plot development is.

“Because it is unafraid to dabble in gore, murder or high school drama, the show is capable of moving in a lot of different directions.”

Reviewing the show in its first season, Alison Herman of The Ringer said: “We may finally get to see what a cult show looks like without a "tragically canceled" qualifier tacked in front.”

Herman unfortunately did not follow that up with ‘touch wood’ or anything that would avoid them jinxing it because, in the end, that’s exactly what happened to Santa Clarita Diet.

The third season ends on a huge cliffhanger, one some went as far as to call the best ever, but fans will be forever left in the lurch as it has been cancelled for six years with no end in sight.

The show’s third season ends with perhaps the biggest plot twist the show can imagine, with Joel being bitten by Sheila, collapsing, and it not being clear if he will wake up a zombie or simply die.

There is a whole lot more confusion involving a character called ‘Mr Ball Legs’, but this captures the gist of it.

One fan posted to Reddit after finishing the show, saying: “I dont know how many people have posted this exact same thing but I finished the show for the 10th time and every time it gets worse that i dont know what happens next.”

Another said: “I will never stop being mad about Santa Clarita Diet being cancelled.

“The good news is, other than the final cliffhanger (and a plotline with Abby), a good amount of the story had been wrapped up by then. The bad news is the new chapter they seemed to be leading up to seemed really interesting, and now we'll never get to see it.

“If you haven't seen it, don't let this discourage you from trying it out. It's absolutely fantastic, and it's still well worth watching without a proper ending.”

Santa Clarita Diet is available to stream on Netflix.
