Oftentimes when Netflix adds well-known movies it will lead to a huge furore on social media, with the streamer wanting to brag about their new title.

In the case of a newly added Scarlett Johansson movie, however, Netflix have simply quietly added it to their platform without making a fuss.

Johansson has quietly amassed one of the most commercial and critically successful careers, starring in a number of MCU films as well as critical darlings like Marriage Story and Lost in Translation.

On top of that, the Hollywood star is set to take on yet another major film franchise with Jurassic World Rebirth, set to release July of this year.

For many, however, Lucy is still one of the most iconic of her hugely successful career.

Quietly added to Netflix on Friday (16 May) in the UK and Ireland, the film focuses on Johansson as the titular Lucy.

After absorbing a psychedelic drug into her bloodstream, Lucy is able to unlock the full capabilities of her brain, gaining powerful abilities.

Also starring Morgan Freeman and Choi Min-sik, the film took director Luc Besson over ten years to make.

With a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, it was mixed with critics but most were fans of the sci-fi thriller.

Kate Muir of The Times gave the film a four star review, calling it a ‘supremely silly and pleasurable action movie.'

Bill Goodykoontz of the Arizona Republic had similar thoughts, saying of the film: “Lucy is insane, makes very little sense, doesn't stand up to scrutiny and is an absolute blast.”

If you ask many people though, an insane, silly, and pleasurable action film easily watchable on Netflix is the perfect Friday night binge.

The one aspect of the film that received most criticism is the fact that it is based on the common scientific myth that humans only use 10% of their brains.

This led famous scientists Neil de Grasse Tyson to debunk it, saying in a video on his YouTube: “It is a misquote from what was actually said by [a] neuroscientist a hundred years ago, who said 'The brain is so complex we only know what 10 percent of it is used for.’

“There's no proof the other 90 percent of human cerebral capacity would be used to make bad guys float.”

One thing that de Grasse Tyson, of course, had not considered there, is that it is incredibly cool to have brain powers that can make bad guys float.

As such, if you’re after a Friday night binge – Lucy is probably still a great bet.

Lucy is available to watch on Netflix in the UK and Ireland now.
