Netflix don't chill when it comes to going through with their promises.

The streaming service has made a major change to its subscription tiers, with its latest and cheapest tier lacking certain privileges.

As of January 2024, there are three subscription plans:

1) Standard with adverts (£4.99 / month)

2) Standard (£10.99 / month)

3) Premium (£17.99 / month)

Now, with the introduction of the new plan, this means that one of its most popular ad-free plans is no longer available.

Netflix's most basic ad-free experience offered users ad-free 720p video and a single video stream for jut £6.99 / month.

Especially with smaller and older TVs, the 720p definition wouldn't have been much of a notable difference to 1080p.

Sadly, the plan is now unavailable to new and rejoining users, despite the cheaper plan having previously done wonders for the streaming service.

To be honest though, at a glance, Netflix's 'standard with adverts' plan does seem like a pretty good deal.

It lets you download on two devices at a time with Full HD video quality, with access to an unlimited amount of video games.

The two main drawbacks are, of course, adverts in between shows, and that some movies and TV programmes are unavailable. Plus no Ultra HD.

According to What's On Netflix, only 55 titles out of 8,262 are unavailable to watch on UK Netflix, which isn't too bad.

That's just 0.7 percent of the library which has been frozen out.

Especially if you compare it with the US, as 2.5 percent of their catalogue is out.

So, these are the movies/specials blocked on UK Netflix’s standard with adverts tier:

  • Captain Underpants Epic Choice-o-Rama (2020) – Netflix Original
  • Captain Underpants Mega Blissmas (2020) – Netflix Original
