Stranger Things season five volume one has been released and the final episode has confirmed a major fan theory, which some have predicted since the very beginning.

The series returning for its final season has been hotly anticipated, with fans on social media having desperately theorised for months and years on what may happen in the final run of episodes.
Whether it be that Eddie Munson is coming back as a lieutenant of Venca, that Will is secretly evil, or that Barb is going to come back after all this time, the viral fan theory that ended up coming true was a major part of volume one.
Episode four ends with a major battle with the forces of the Upside Down, with Vecna stepping out into the real world while soldiers are slaughtered by Demogorgons.
Just as all seems lost however, with Robin (Maya Hawke), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) all set to be devoured, a major reveal happens as Will (Noah Schnapp) saves the day.

The character, who was a major focus of the four episodes the Duffer Brothers told fans to rewatch before season five was released, is shown to have powers reminiscent of Eleven’s as he takes control of the Demogorgons’ and kills them.
Volume one ends with him wiping blood from his nose like Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), but the show’s creators have stated that his powers differ from hers.

Speaking to Variety in a spoiler-focused interview, Ross Duffer stated that Will does not have the same powers as Eleven, but ‘he’s able to channel Vecna’s powers’.
He goes on to add, however: “But they’re all related. Vecna and Eleven, their powers are similar.

“The powers aren’t within him. He’s able to channel these powers from Vecna and use it, sort of puppeteering.”
Matt and Ross Duffer state in the interview that Will’s powers work because he is able to ‘tap into the hive mind’ and that, if he’s not close to it, he’s not able to use them.
Speaking about the decision to give Will powers, Ross stated they have been ‘talking about it for as long as he can remember’.
Fans online have long theorised that Will’s powers extend beyond simply getting the heebie-jeebies.

One fan on Reddit discussing the episode said: “That moment when Will basically became The One was in-f*cking-credible. Bro is finally off the bench and I can’t for him to tap into his hive mind potential.”
Another commented: “Dude. That ending. It’s about time! Hopper is 100% going to say 'I told you so' to Joyce. Venca is going to need Will’s bubble wrap when he’s done.”
A third commented: “Will tapping into his powers finally I used to dream about days like this god that was epic.”
One comment however made one thing clear, that this has been foreshadowed from the very first scene of the series where they all play Dungeons and Dragons, with a fan pointing out that in the game he plays ‘Will the Sorcerer’.
