Ozzy Osbourne Had To Be Given Four Times The Normal Anaesthetic Dose

Ozzy Osbourne is known for his hard-living past, although he's much more restrained these days

Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that medical staff had to give him four times the ordinary dose of anaesthetic in order to get him under for surgery during his drug using years.

The 73-year-old Black Sabbath frontman told how the doctor tasked with getting him over asked him why he ‘wasn’t asleep yet’ as he administered the drugs required before an operation.

Obviously, Ozzy's hard-living years are now over, and he’s much more straight-laced these days, but when he was injured in a near-fatal quad-bike crash back in 2003, things were much different.

In an interview with radio station Sirius XM, Ozzy said: “I had a procedure when I was doing all this s***.

“The guy putting the stuff in goes, ‘How long have you been doing this music?’

“And I said so many years, and kept talking. And he goes, ‘Why aren’t you asleep yet?’”

Ozzy explained the story on Sirius XM.

Osbourne went on to explain that – in the end – the doctor had to give him four times the typical amount of anaesthetic or ‘two full syringes’ to get him to sleep.

Ozzy kicked most of his bad habits a good while back, but he has still had run-ins with relapse, revealing that he spent £600 on cannabis at one of California’s legal weed shops.

In the end, he decided not to smoke any of the stuff that he bought from the Los Angeles shop, but it seems to have been a close run thing.

Ozzy said: “I got it and I thought what the *** have I bought that for?

“Four ounces?

“I just had Covid so I can’t smoke anyway.

“I’d had one of those thoughts ‘that would be good’.

“But I never smoked one.”

Explaining his reasoning behind putting his days of substance use behind him, Osbourne said: “The thing that keeps me away from it now is I got real with me.

“One of the main reasons I have embraced my family is because I am not out of my f***ing face any more.”

Ozzy has had troubles with his health recently, after a heavy fall left him needing surgery and a lengthy period of recuperation.

He’s also been diagnosed with a form of Parkinson’s disease.

Ozzy’s wife Sharon recently said that he was ‘on the road to recovery’ after ‘major’ surgery on his spine last month.

The 69-year-old former X Factor judge said her husband is ‘doing well’ after the surgery that could ‘determine the rest of his life’.

Speaking about the fall that caused the injury, Ozzy has previously said: “I went to the bathroom in the night, lost my balance and landed flat on my face.

“I saw this big white flash when I hit the floor and I thought, ‘you’ve finally done it now.’

“I knew it was bad, I thought I was paralysed, so very calmly I said, 'Sharon, I can’t move. I think I’ve done my neck. Phone an ambulance.'

Hopefully the surgery has been a success and we can see Ozzy back on the stage once again soon.
