The trailer for Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney's documentary about their unlikely ownership of Wrexham AFC football club has dropped. You can watch it here:

Welcome to Wrexham is set to premiere next month, telling the story of how Reynolds teamed up with the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star to buy the Wrexham Red Dragons, a struggling team in the National League and the oldest pro football club in Wales.

The plan was for them to create an underdog story everyone can root for, but the worry is that neither of the Hollywood actors have experience working in footy or with each other.

Per the official synopsis: "Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) bought the third-oldest professional football club in the world.

"It is a Welsh team in the town Wrexham and the team is currently on the brink of dissolution.

"Welcome to Wrexham is a docuseries tracking the dreams and worries of Wrexham, a working-class town in North Wales, UK, as two Hollywood stars take ownership of the town’s historic yet struggling football club."

Welcome to Wrexham is set to drop next month.
FX

Up until this point, the Welsh club had been under fan ownership since 2011, having lost their place in the football league in 2008 before eventually falling into administration.

But the dedicated supporters kept the team alive for nearly 10 years until the Deadpool and It's Always Sunny actors presented a case to buy them.

Members attached to the Wrexham Supporters' Trust overwhelmingly voted to approve the takeover bid to ensure the club had a decent shot at a future.

Even people who aren't fans of the actors or football will have something to take away from the upcoming series, which explores the hope and change brought about in a community by an unexpected source.

For US viewers, the first two episodes of Welcome to Wrexham will drop on FX on 24 August before being made available to stream on Hulu the following day.

In the UK, the series will stream on Disney Plus from 25 August.

Reynolds and McElhenney first collaborated to buy the 5th tier club in 2020 before completing the purchase under their RR McReynolds Company LLC banner in February 2021.

Fast forward to October last year and they were finally able to attend their first Red Dragons game as the side played against Maidenhead United at York Road.

Sadly, it wasn't the best night for their first game as Wrexham lost to Maidenhead United 3-2 - but that didn't dampen their spirits.

Their journey in is set to be explored in more detail in the upcoming docu-series, so be sure to tune in when it drops next month.
