YouTuber and wheelchair-user Shane Burcaw has opened up about his sex life with his wife, who is not disabled.

Shane tied the knot with his partner, Hannah Aylward, in 2020, and together the pair have racked up more than one million subscribers on YouTube as they document their life and romance.

Shane was born with spinal muscular atrophy, which causes weakness and wasting of the skeletal muscles, and has used a wheelchair since the age of two.

That definitely hasn't got in the way of the couple's intimacy, though, as Shane explained when he opened up in an interview with StyleLikeU.

In fact, Shane claims his intimacy with Hannah 'benefits' from his disability.

"A big thing for me is that our intimacy is not just me enjoying it," he said. "It doesn't look like what you see in the movies."

Hannah went on to explain that Shane uses his voice in lieu of being able to do something physically.

He gave the example of how a non-disabled man might 'come up to Hannah and start rubbing her shoulders' as an indication that he's up for getting down and dirty, but Shane doesn't need to do that.

Instead, he just gets straight to the point.

"I will just say, 'hey you wanna go have sex?" he explained.

It might be blunt, but it would definitely save time.

Shane went on to admit that his approach might strike people as not being very romantic, but added: "Take our word for it. After I ask that, we are romantic."

The couple have explained that Shane can ask Hannah to move him into specific positions if he needs to, but they're also familiar enough with each other that sometimes they don't need to use words.

“We have shorthand for all of these things — he doesn’t say ‘Can you move my legs under your legs?,’ we just know," Hannah said.

“I feel like I know his body and preferences as well as I know my own.”

In sharing their lives online, Hannah and Shane have been hit with a lot of comments from viewers who have voiced their own thoughts on their relationship, with Hannah saying: “People say that I couldn’t possibly be satisfied, we get that every day.”

Shane added: "They perceive that I can’t have sex in their very limited, missionary man f*cks woman.

"They think that is the be-all and end-all of sex. Little do they know…”

But while intimacy is important, Hannah said the best part about her relationship with Shane is that they 'have comfort with each other'.
