A man participating in a show aimed at exploring open relationships chose to put a stop to a group sex act after he started to feel overwhelmed.

Open House: The Great Sex Experiment is the weird TV series on everyone's lips, and it focuses on monogamous couples - who have usually been together for a long time - trying their hands at an open relationship.

The Channel 4 show is currently on its third season, and audiences can't get enough of the drama that it brings to screens.

Couples have been pushed to the limits as they are made to enter a house full of sexually liberated polyamorous people, often given the chance to sleep with them.

This can either be together, or separately, as the pair are given time to get to know them, with any sexual outcomes shown explicitly to viewers.

But on last night's episode, a particularly awkward moment unfolded.

It saw a man stop a crazed orgy with three other women while they were in the middle of their relations.

Couples are usually mixed in with polyamorous individuals as well as sex experts, who are there to help them with any issues or doubts.

Simon entered the house with his fiancé Chris, as the pair looked to explore if they were attracted to women at all before tying the knot.

And during their sex retreat, the former started to get flustered when he engaged in an orgy with three women, even being offered a glass of water to calm his nerves.

Speaking to the girls, who looked very understanding, he said that he was conscious he 'wasn't hard', adding: "Might just be a bit of stage fright, part of it is also... there's a lot going on.

"I'm just, like, processing everything at once. This is something very new for me."

This isn't the first shocking moment to take place on the show, with one woman being left humiliated by her partner took the plunge and had an orgy with six women on their first night in the house, while she did nothing.

The damning shot of Tanith looking out of their window in the house to the 'sex tent' where the group sex was happening has since become iconic as a marker of how unforgiving the show can be.

In a later episode, a different couple had a more modest reaction to things, with Tom throwing up after trying to stomach the idea of his partner sleeping with someone else.

Open House: The Great Sex Experiment airs on Friday on Channel 4 at 10pm.
