Spiderhead is one of Netflix’s many upcoming releases this summer, but this dystopian sci-fi film with its unique storyline and high-profile cast is not one to miss.

Spiderhead Plot:

Combining the unusual pairing of thriller and comedy, it is set in a futuristic state-of-the-art penitentiary led by the mad scientist Steve Abnesti, played by Chris Hemsworth. The prison offeris inmates the chance to shorten their sentences by volunteering as medical subjects.

Being forced to wear a surgically attached device that releases dosages of mind-controlling drugs into their systems, Spiderhead explores the ironic narrative of the limitations of free will. The inmates are free but only within the constraints of Steve Abnesti’s control, where his continuing efforts to test such limits take a sharp turn. The inmate’s wild behaviour paired with Absenti’s uncontrollable desire to continue administering emotion-altering drugs are a route for disaster in the prison – one which will cost all.

Based on George Saunder’s dystopian short story, Escape from Spiderhead (2010), this movie adaptation will hopefully bring his imaginative work to life. With Netflix successfully pulling off many film adaptations such as Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton and All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, many are confident this Netflix Original will deliver.

Spiderhead Cast:

It is directed by Joseph Kosinski and its script is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who have directed many praiseworthy films such as Deadpool (2016) and Oblivion (2013).

This movie’s gripping synopsis will be brought to life by the famous Chris Hemsworth, who is best known for his role of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Miles Teller, who has starred in Fantastic Four and Divergent, and Jurnee Smollet, who has acted in Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. More famous actors include Nathan Jones, Tess Haubrich, Charles Parnell and BeBe Bettencourt who are acting as inmates and administrators in the eerie prison. It is no doubt this talented team will make this dystopian movie one leaving viewers glued to their screens.

Spiderhead Release Date:

Spiderhead is scheduled to be released on Netflix on the 17th of June.

Spiderhead Trailer:

Fans have been treated to a short 2-minute trailer to build up the excitement for the release.

So, begin the countdown and prepare for a thriller movie night filled with popcorn, your preferred beverage, and most importantly, Chris Hemsworth gracing your screen!
