Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer has issued a warning to fans of the sci-fi series, admitting that viewers should be 'concerned' for their favourite characters ahead of upcoming instalment. Watch the trailer below:

The second batch, consisting of just two episodes, is set to land on Netflix on 1 July. Although there’s just two episodes this time around, one of them is a whopping two hours and 19 minutes long.

And it seems that the next release of episodes are going to be the most cut throat yet, as Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers in the series, teased multiple deaths in a recent interview.

Appearing on The Tonight Show, he said: "You can expect from Volume Two, we've got some deaths coming, some gore, and a big..."

The actor was quickly interrupted by host Jimmy Fallon who replied: "Wow, that's a big spoiler. Dude, you just said something that you can't say!"

To which Schnapp quickly fired back: "No but I didn't say who!"

Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer said viewers should be 'concerned' for the characters.

Weighing in on the conversation surrounding the characters’ fate, Ross Duffer told Variety that it is a 'darker season' and fans should be ‘concerned’.

He said: "I don't really want to say, but I would be concerned about the characters going into Volume 2, for sure.

"I hope that that is sort of the sense, because it is a darker season, and the kids are no longer kids. And there's sort of an ominous feeling that things might not go well. Now, whether they do [die] or not, you'll have to watch."

One character fans seem to be most worried for online is Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery, who was last saw seen trying to shake Nancy out of her Vecna paralysis.

And since the latest trailer dropped, there's been speculation about whether he will make it out of this season alive as it appears he goes into the Upside Down on a mission to end it.

Responding to speculation, Ross replied: "It feels wrong to say 'excited', but I'm excited that people are concerned.

"And they should be concerned going into the final two episodes [of season 4] — for everybody."

Previously, Schnapp let slip that there’s a death on the cards for season four; during an interview with The Wrap alongside his co-star Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven.

Brown said: "I am scared to vocalise anything that I want, because it always turns into 'Millie Bobby Brown' demands this storyline. I’m just going to say I trust the Duffer Brothers and their creative process.

"We’re all afraid of one of us dying.”

At this point that Schnapp chipped in: "One of us will die. Or more. The cast is so big."

Volume one of Stranger Things season four is streaming on Netflix right now, while volume two will land on 1 July.
