Influencers Try To Cancel Leatherface In Trailer For New Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Leatherface is back and he's taking on Gen Z.

The trailer for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel has arrived, and it looks like the classic horror has been revised for a modern audience.

So much so that a group of influencers try to ‘cancel’ Leatherface in our first look at the new movie... big mistake.

As the famed killer ambushes a party bus, the young passengers all hold up their phones to film what they think is a prank.

“Try anything and you’re cancelled, bro,” says one guy before realising that it’s definitely not a joke.

As Leatherface revs up his trusty chainsaw, the influencer says, “Oh f***,” before the whole scene turns into a bloodbath.

And that’s just the trailer.

Horror fans will no doubt be excited for the movie to drop on Netflix later this month, which is set to be a direct sequel to the 1974 original.

Set in the present day, the plot follows a group of Gen Zers who intend to breathe new life into a remote ghost town in Texas.

However, things soon take a violent turn when they discover they’re trespassing on Leatherface’s territory.

There are plenty of new additions to the cast, including Outlander star Nell Hudson and Eighth Grade's Elsie Fisher.

Olwen Fouéré takes over from Marilyn Burns as Sally Hardesty, the young woman who managed to escape Leatherface and his family of cannibals in the first film. Burns sadly died in 2014.

In the new sequel, Sally comes out of hiding to get her revenge on Leatherface once and for all.

Between Sally’s return and the influencer spin, it seems director David Blue Garcia has stuck to his promise of returning to the franchise's roots while also delivering something for modern audiences.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is widely regarded as one of the most influential horror films of all time.

Directed by Tobe Hooper and made on a tiny budget, it featured a group of friends who fall prey to a family of cannibals in rural Texas, including our central villain Leatherface.

Netflix

It was a huge box office success and it spawned an eight-film franchise. However, the most recent sequel, 2017's Leatherface, was not well received and has a rating of 30 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hopefully the upcoming movie - simply named Texas Chainsaw Massacre - makes a better fist of it.

With the sequel dropping on Netflix on 18 February, we don’t have to wait long to find out.
