People have been left reeling after discovering how much the new foldable Apple iPhone Duo will cost when it’s released.
In case you missed it, the tech giant unveiled its latest offerings earlier today (9 September), which included the iPhone 18 Pro and an updated version of its AirPods, as well as a couple of new Apple Watches.
And just as it seemed as though the presentation was due to wrap up, newly-installed Apple CEO John Ternus whipped out the first-ever foldable iPhone.
Its foldability means that it benefits from a much larger screen, so it’s the size of a small tablet when unfolded, but then can be nearly snapped shut to make it similar to a large phone.

As you’d expect from Apple, it’s packed with all sorts of techy bits, including a powerful A20 Pro chip and a duo of batteries that are capable of superfast charging and boast up to 24 hours per charge when using both screens.

The camera, while foldable, is the same spec as the iPhone 18 while the outer screen display is 90 percent the size of the iPhone 18 Pro and the inner display is 7.6 inches.
Apple has removed FaceID for the Duo, so you can unlock it via a fingerprint sensor.
While the stats and tech specs appear to be impressive, it was the price tag that some folks couldn’t get past: $1,999, for the base 256GB model and all the way up to $3,199 for the 2TB model, making it the most expensive iPhone ever made and the same price as the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
Both the 18 Pro and the 18 Pro Max, also announced today, were both $100 higher than previously released models as they're going on sale for $1,199 and $1,299 respectively.
Shortly after the iPhone Duo was unveiled folks turned to X to discuss the ‘wild’ price.
One wrote: “Apple are shameless.”
A second commented: “That price is f***ing wild, considering Samsung had that five years ago and much cheaper.”
A third unimpressed Apple fan said: “Unpopular opinion: iPhone Duo is kinda stupid.
“You can buy an iPhone 18 Pro Max AND an iPad Mini for less than the price of a Duo for instances where you really need that bigger screen.”

Another said: “2k? LOL yea man i'm good... I'm closer to going back to a flip phone than going to this.”
Someone else wrote: “$2,000 for an iPhone Duo with only 256GB is crazy.”
Meanwhile, Samsung took the launch as an opportunity to take a playful swipe at its rivals.
As you may be aware, Samsung released its own bendy phone a few years back and the company couldn’t help but point that out.
“Let us know when you're done reheating our leftovers,” Samsung wrote.
The company also sent a message of ‘solidarity’ to Duo Lingo, writing: I’m so sorry. They copied us, too."
Shots fired.
For those who are interested in snapping up the iPhone Duo preorders kick off on 16 October ahead of it going on sale on 23 October.
