Rings Of Power: Release Date, Cast And Trailer

The Lord of the Rings world is continuing on screen, and here is everything you need to know about where and when to watch it.

After its announcement all the way back in 2017 the new Lord of The Rings TV show is almost upon us, as fans have been tentatively waiting to dive back into Middle Earth.

Here’s everything you need to know about the brand new Rings of Power

Release Date

Amazon has confirmed since August 2021 that the new series will be streamed on Amazon Prime on September 2, 2022; meaning they’ve given us almost a year's wait before releasing the new block-buster tv show.

What is ‘Rings of Power’ about?

The new series takes place thousands of years before the events of both the beloved The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the second age of Middle Earth. Therefore, we won't be seeing the well known characters which appear in both trilogies such as Frodo, Sam and Aragorn. However, Rings of Power isn't completely detached from the infamous films as elvish characters such as Elrond and Galadriel will feature in the long awaited series.

Rings of Power will tell the story of a young Sauron’s rise to power and also show the forging of the rings given to the elves, men and dwarves not to mention the master ring which has the power to dominate all of Middle Earth. The show will also show the rise and fall of Númenor, which is the island home to the Dúnedain, the race of men which Aragorn descends from. The show is also said to feature the Battle of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men which is famously depicted at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring and eventually ends in the dark lord Sauron's defeat as he loses the one ring to Isildur.

Who is in the Cast?

There has already been a substantial amount of info given away regarding the characters of the show. The first giveaway concerning the cast was that Morfydd Clark is playing Galadriel, and although she is only featuring in two episodes of the series, the fact that Galadriel is a keeper of one of the three elvish rings, suggests she will have a major part to play in Rings of Power. Sticking to characters appearing in The Lord of The Rings, Robert Aramayo takes on the role of a young Elrond. The actor isn't a stranger to the fantasy world as he played the young Ned Stark in the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones. A number of other familiar characters are set to appear, along with some new characters who were not part of Tolkien's world. Included in this will be Sophia Nomvete, the first black woman to be seen on screen in Tolkien’s universe. The cast is as follows:

  • Morfydd Clark (Galadriel)
  • Owain Arthur (Durin IV)
  • Robert Aramayo (Elrond)
  • Sophia Nomvete (Disa)
  • Benjamin Walker (King Gil Galad)
  • Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor)
  • Maxim Baldry (Isildur)
  • Ismael Cruz Córdova (Arondir)

Trailer and Production

The Rings of Power trailer shows some jaw dropping scenes, which is hardly surprising considering Amazon spent a whopping $1 Billion on producing the show which is detached from the $250 million spent on buying the rights for it. The trailer consists of beautiful scenery, impressive CGI and hints of some colossal battles which will undoubtedly be a treat for fans. However, although much about the characters featuring in the show has been released the trailer doesn’t give away much about the direction they are taking with Tolkien’s works.
