Landon, 19, and Skyler, 14, are half-brothers but there also technically cousins.
That’s because their mum, Kimberly, had the eldest with her ex-husband and her youngest with her ex-husband’s twin brother, Ismael.
She was just 18 when she married and became pregnant with Landon and ‘was very scared’ at the time.
Eventually, it became clear there were problems in her relationship and Ismael became a good friend to the American.

But one day, a moment ‘changed everything’ and something ‘woke up’ in Kimberly, leading to their relationship and eventually, marriage of their own.
When she became pregnant with Skyler, the pair had to keep it a secret, pretending it was Ismael’s brother’s child until she ‘let it all out’ and the ‘drama started’, moving in together as a family of four.

Telling their story on Truly, Kimberly says Ismael had came to visit in Mississippi for an event when her son was one and she ‘confided in him a few things that were happening’.
“He could see that things were very tense in the house,” she recalled. “He told me, he said, ‘Well, you can call me and text me whenever you need and I can help you and Landon.’”
She says at this point there was ‘nothing romantic at all’ with her then brother-in-law and always saw him as a ‘really good friend’ while her relationship was ‘really hard’.
“My intention was not take my sister-in-law back then from my brother,” he explained.
And Ismael had thought his brother ‘was lucky to have her’, and things didn’t change for Kimberly until he was about to leave from his visit.
“We were saying goodbye and it was a very subtle intimate moment and I started crying because I knew that something woke up in me and it was definitely awake in him,” Kimberly explained.
She added that by this point her relationship with his brother ‘was over’ but she was still living with him.
While she gelt ‘guilty’ because of how close he was to his family, her ‘guilt wasn’t enough for me to push him aside’.
Kimberly found out she was expecting Skylar while she was still married, and the pair kept it a secret.
“About two months after he was born, I let it all out and everybody knew and then the drama started,” she explained.
“When I did tell people, I was disowned, they basically kicked me out.”
The family then moved as a four to Minnesota, which she found ‘freeing’.
For a while Landon struggled with calling Ismael ‘dad’ but when Kimberly married him in 2016, her son told him: “You’re not my uncle anymore. You’re my dad.”
One challenge the couple face online though is the trolling over their height difference – Ismael is 4’11” while Kimberly is 5’7”.
“People think I’m her son,” he said, “but I’m her short king baby daddy.”
Kimberly says the hate ‘does not affect us at all’ and is ‘very confident’ in her relationship, family and household.
Ismael’s brother has also moved ;’on with his life’ and remarried.
“We all have our separate lives and everyone is fine,” Kimberly added. “No one has been harmed, but we’re more happy.”
