Hooters waitress shares how much she made in tips after doing birthday experiment

People were impressed by how much she took home

A Hooters waitress has shared how much she made in tips over a week when she conducted the 'birthday experiment'.

In this day and age, it's hard to know how much to tip, when to tip, if you should tip, it's become a mess quite frankly.

But a common rule of thumb is to tip the waiter/waitress if they offered good service, or you feel as though they may deserve it.

A smart way that servers in restaurants can take advantage of the second part of that is to work on their birthday.

Or better yet, pretend it's their birthday, for several days on end.

TikToker and Hooters waitress Savannah has carried this experiment out, working shifts in her birthday week, though having her actual birthday off.

It is an interesting experiment in principle, comparing the difference between this and how much she would normally get.

Basically, how generous are people, really?

In the video, she explains that she is working her birthday week, covering Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday and wearing her birthday sash while on shift.

Savannah said she made it clear to customers that she wasn't working her 'exact birthday', but admitted 'no one cared' that she was a few days off.

On Sunday, she revealed that she got $10 (£8) from someone at the bar just because it was her 'birthday', helping to bring the total up to $272 (£214) for the day - not a bad start.

Unfortunately she fell ill on Monday, so the experiment will only cover 3/4 of the promised days.

Before revealing her earnings on the Tuesday, she explained that she works morning shifts, which are slower than night shifts.

The Tuesday grand total was $121 (£95), a huge drop-off from Sunday.

But on Friday, Savannah made a respectable $178 (£140), despite being cut early from her shift.

Altogether, her total in tips alone for the week totalled $571(£450).

However, this could definitely have been higher if she was well on Monday, stayed for the full shift on Friday and did the busier night shifts.

Making a total of $571 in tips over just three days is not a bad feat.

Already making a handsome amount from the birthday experiment, the fact that it could have potentially been much higher boggles the mind.

It is also worth noting that the tipping system in the US is a lot more generous and set in stone compared to the UK.

Maybe we should all start wearing birthday sashes to our jobs - but I don't think that's how that works.

Viewers shared their thoughts on the experiment in the comments.

One said: "I swear I work at the wrong place."

Another commented: "Lord is this my sign?"

A third put: "You earn more then when I work a week."

The video left several users contemplating whether they should apply to Hooters in the comments.

I don't blame them.
