Millennials hit back at Gen Z after being called out for ‘millennial pause’ phenomenon

Millennials hit back at Gen Z after being called out for ‘millennial pause’ phenomenon

The 'millennial pause' is something many of us do without realising

Oh look, Gen Z'ers are taking the mick out of us (millennials) again.

But you know what, those of us who were born from 1981 to 1996 have had it up to here (raises hand above head) with those who are born from 1997 to 2012.

As a 29-year-old, I will speak on behalf of millennials, to say that we are tired of being made to change the way that we talk by the 'woke brigade'.

Remember when 'ate' used to just mean 'ate' and 'no cap' meant not having a cap on your head.

But nowadays, what you wear is now called 'drip' and deciding to grow out a beard is now called 'a glow up'.

Amid my 'salty AF' rant, however, it seems that Gen Z'ers are poking fun at the way we film ourselves when on camera.

Dubbed the 'millennial pause', it's what happens when you click record on your front camera and start the video by saying: "Hey everybody."

Taking to TikTok, user Melia (@suprememelia) shared a clip of the cast of The Avengers all doing their version of the so-called 'millennial pause', despite many of them being born before 1981.

The likes of Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson all do their version of it as Gen Z'ers joked: "I thought you were supposed to say 'is this thing on' or 'is it recording' then acting awkward for five seconds."

Meanwhile, millennials have hit back at the jokes as one person pointed out: "I know millennials get made fun of, but this is SO much better than the Gen Z style of videos where they always seem surprised that someone (themselves) started videoing them halfway through their sentence."

Another viewer added: "I have the 'millennial pause' but that’s bc Snapchat cuts the beginning part of my videos and now it’s a habit to wait."

A third person wrote: "I genuinely think we do it so we’re not like screaming at the camera the second we’re recording.

"Almost taking a second to seem chill lol."

Someone else also explained: "This is obviously because some cameras to this day will have a delay before recording after you press go.

"It was even worse for phones when millennials were growing up."

A fifth added: "I also do the millennial pause because the camera starts recording a second later and it start in the middle of my word."

Someone else said: "I've come to realise that it's because we grew up with recording devices that we had to wait to make sure they were recording."
