In a modern world filled to the brim with insults, being called a Karen is probably not one of the worst things you can endure.
But for over five years now, the term has still persisted, after the meme first grew in popularity in the late 2010s, before securing its place in history during the Coronavirus pandemic.
A video of a white couple, who were later referred to as 'Karen and Ken', pointing guns at protestors passing by their house sparked the term, while another woman went viral after calling the police on a black man who had asked her to put her dog on a leash in the park.
In case you're not aware, the name Karen has been used to describe white middle-aged women, often with a dodgy haircut, who are perceived to be obnoxious or racist, so it's perhaps no surprise that the name has decreased in popularity when naming new babies.

Naturally, Gen Z feel that they need a new name to describe to Karens new and old, as it's almost certain that white privilege will still exist in 30 years time, so long as the world hasn't been destroyed by World War Three at that point.

While I've had no personal say in the matter, it seems as if most of TikTok are in agreement that we now have a new alternative name for Karens, and it's apparently Jessica.
Now, that's tough for me to write, because I am friendly with a fair few Jessicas and Jesses, apart from one who never texted me back, and frankly, it feels wrong to compare Jessica Alba to a Karen, as she'd probably manage to look good rocking an asymmetric bob while asking for the manager.
But that's what much of the internet has decided upon, perhaps because of the sheer amount of Jessica-related names out there, with a number of viral TikTok videos and commenters volunteering the name in recent years.
One TikTok in particular attracted over 20,000 comments from people, many of whom seemed to think that Jessica was the perfect name for this, although a fair few did also suggest Ashley, even though she's no worse than Mary-Kate.
One comment read: "I’ve never met a pleasant Jessica."
Another said: "Ashley and Jessica. Been traumatised by both."
A third wrote: "Ashley and Jessica. Haven’t met one that doesn’t fit as a Karen."
So, if you are called Jessica and you're reading this, it seems as if you're going to have to start behaving angelically to ensure that you don't drag your own name through the mud, because I'm sure that the last thing you need is to become the new Karen.
