Murderer Chris Watts, whose killings featured in recent Netflix documentary American Murder: The Family Next Door, has received an influx of letters from women since the show was released.

Watts, 35, is currently serving a life sentence without the chance of parole after he admitted to the brutal murders of his 15-week pregnant wife Shanann, 34, and their two daughters Bella, four, and Celeste, three.

However, despite his gruesome crimes, since being locked up he's been writing to multiple women, with a source telling People: "He got a lot of letters at first. Many of them are from women who thought he was handsome and felt compassion for him.

"He had nothing better to do, so he wrote them back. And he started having pen pals. A couple of them stood out, and they've kept in contact."

Following American Murder: The Family Next Door arriving on Netflix, the unnamed source said Watts had received 'more than 10' new letters in the past week.

They added: "Some of the letters are angry. A lot of them are from people of faith who want to pray for him. But then he gets letters from women who want to connect with him, you know, romantically. He responds because he doesn't have anything better to do."

Viewers were left horrified after watching the new true-crime documentary, which uses raw footage including police interview tapes, social media posts, text message conversations and bodycam recordings, to cover the days leading up to the murder and Watts' subsequent arrest.

After initially lying to police and saying he had no idea where his wife and children were, Watts would later admit to killing Shanann at their home before putting her body in the car with their two daughters and driving to the oil field where he worked.

He then smothered both the children before dumping their bodies into oil tanks and burying his wife in a shallow grave nearby.

In court he admitted his guilt as a part of plea deal to avoid the death penalty. He now remains in protective custody in prison.
