Fans Think They've Worked Out How Old Nessa Is

It explains how she's had so much 'life experience' really

An avid Gavin & Stacey fan who might have had a bit too much time on her hands over Christmas, thinks she's worked out how old Nessa is.

After the Christmas special aired on, you guessed it, Christmas Day, it threw a few questions up about Nessa's age.

We all know that she's had a 'colourful' life, to say the least. Alongside the multiple famous people she name drops as sexual encounters, she says that she worked as a driver for Gladys Knight and the Pips in 1979, so that would suggest that she is well into her 40s when the first series starts.

But posting on a Gavin & Stacey Facebook page, a fan called Isobel wrote: "I think I've worked out how old Nessa is. She said in the Christmas special that when Stacey was 17, she was around 35 (if i'm remembering correctly).

"This means that she is 18 years older than Stacey. when the show first started, it says that both Gavin and Stacey are 26, meaning Nessa was 44 at the start. Add 10 years onto that, and she's now 54, meaning she's around the same age as Bryn. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just using information I've got from the show and behind the scenes."

This then sparked a debate among others on the page. One person commented that Ruth Jones, who plays Nessa, is 53, so it would make sense in terms of what she looks like.

A Fandom page, which you would expect to be correct, says she's 56, so Isobel was only a few years out.

The Christmas special was announced earlier this year and ended on a huge cliffhanger, with the hour-long episode ending with Nessa proposing to Smithy shortly followed by the closing credits.

The episode ended before we heard a reply from him, with Ruth Jones (who plays Nessa) telling The Sun: "It is so complicated for me and James to get together to write.

"I do say never say never, as while we did make it work that was after three years of trying to find time when we could sit down and write it.

"Obviously with the way it ends, there is room for more. It's a shame we didn't have more time when we were writing so we could have written more, then have it all ready to go.

"But it was such a challenge to get that special filmed."
