Good news, bambinos: Channel 4's hit sitcom Friday Night Dinner will return to our screens at 10pm on Friday 27 March for its long-awaited sixth series.

Since the show started back in 2011, it's grown something of a cult following as one of Channel 4's longest running sitcoms, inspiring everything from fancy dress costumes to tattoos.

Starring Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal and Mark Heap, the comedy follows the Goodman family and their eccentric neighbour Jim.

As the name suggests, the concept centres on a weekly Friday night meal as the family all come together for the evening, sometimes with an additional place laid at the table for a horny grandmother or bemused girlfriend.

While mum Jackie always has the best intentions for a perfect night, often chaos ensues - whether that's thanks to dad Martin and his hearing deficit, brothers Adam and Jonny putting salt in each other's water or Jim rocking up at the wrong moment.

Series five gained the show's highest ratings in some time - beaten only by series one - also attracting the biggest audience share across all series.

When the news dropped that filming for a new season had begun last October, fans were delighted that they'd soon be getting another fix of the Goodman family antics.

Speaking about season six before filming began, creator Robert Popper joked: "I'm really looking forward to exploring new avenues with series 6. Inspector de Vries (Paul Ritter) will still be working on the Rynsburger case, but this time he's joined by new partner-in-crime, Mees Janssen (Tom Rosenthal), fresh out of Rotterdam Police Academy.

"Eva de Bruin (Tamsin Greig) is now trying to regain control of her pharmaceutical company, after an aggressive takeover bid by the always-cunning Sem Teuling (Simon Bird). But can 'Vos' (Mark Heap) and his faithful dog, 'de Welson' save the day?"

Fiona McDermott, head of comedy at Channel 4, told LADbible: "We're delighted that audiences love Friday Night Dinner as much as we do at Channel 4, and are thrilled that it will be returning.

"It's always brilliant when audiences for a show grow over time and we're thrilled that more and more people are falling in love with the Goodmans. We are so pleased to be making a new series with Robert and Big Talk."

Friday Night Dinner series six will air each Friday on Channel 4 at 10pm from 27 March.
