Filming for season six of Line of Duty has wrapped.

The show's creator Jed Mercurio confirmed the news on Twitter, paying tribute to the entire crew for their efforts amid the pandemic.

He said: "#LineofDuty6 We couldn't have done it without the dedication of cast, crew and supporting artistes to rigorous CoViD safety.

"Not a single day's filming lost, and 100+ colleagues finished the shoot in good health. We looked out for each other. We followed the science."

Star Martin Compston (Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott) also praised the entire team for their efforts.

In a message shared on Twitter, he said: "Delighted we've finally wrapped season 6!

"Tip of the cap to the production team for putting the protocols in place to provide a safe working environment and to the phenomenal crew, having the discipline and determination to work within the new parameters and get us over the line.

"It was a different way of filming to get used to but we were lucky to get back doing a job we love. The scripts from Jed Mercurio superb as ever and we gave it everything, we had so fingers crossed.

"For a lot of us the Covid bubble meant being apart from family for an extended period. I'm now looking forward to some quality time with mine, with that in mind heading offline for a bit. Stay safe troops!"

Filming for the fan favourite show resumed in September in Belfast, after production ground to a halt due coronavirus.

The sixth instalment of the police thriller will feature a brand new case for AC-12, this time investigating DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald), the senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case.

Series regulars Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure will return, alongside Line of Duty newcomers Shalom Brune-Franklin, Perry Fitzpatrick, Andi Osho and Prasanna Puwanarajah.

The BBC confirmed last week that the sixth season of the drama would air before the end of March next year.
