Love Actually Fans Have Found A ‘Ridiculous’ Deleted Scene

“Good lord, I'm speechless. On reflection, this bit of hilarity might have made the movie better.”

It's been 17 years since romantic ensemble film Love Actually hit cinemas, and in the time since its release we've had a lot of time to dissect what's going on - with a recent takedown on Twitter highlighting some potentially problematic aspects to what many once saw as a breezy Christmas flick.

But there's one scene fans are talking about that you won't recognise from the movie, as it never made the final cut - which, by the sounds of things, was a good call.

You'll no doubt remember the sequence that sees young Sam (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) leg it through the airport to tell Joanna (Olivia Olson) that he loves her before she jets off to America.

Well, a recently-resurfaced deleted scene shows that Sam isn't just a fairly speedy runner, but he's also quite the gymnast.

Instead of running through Heathrow Airport to evade those pesky security guards, the alternative scene shows Sam getting away from them through a series of impressive flips, forward rolls and dives.

The only thing is, people haven't found the moves particularly convincing, with one person sharing the clip on Twitter and saying: "Behold! The deleted airport scene."

This triggered a whole wave of negativity, with one person saying they found it 'comically bad', adding: "Thank goodness they took that entire thing out."

Someone else said: "This is an abomination, how ridiculous."

Another wrote: "The body double doing the cartwheels through the seats was about 7 feet tall!"

A fourth commented: "Good lord, I'm speechless. On reflection, this bit of hilarity might have made the movie better."

In the film's commentary, Love Actually director Richard Curtis explained: "We're a bit torn as to whether we were to put this bit in - there would have been some effects and polish done on it. We didn't in the end, and I thought it was fun.

"In the original draft of the movie, there was lots of mentions about the fact that Sam, the little boy, was a brilliant gymnast and when he was sad you'd just see him casually being brilliant at gym.

"So when it came to an airport scene, he brought his gymnastic prowess into play. This is a very rough edit."
