Shortly after Outer Banks dropped on Netflix a couple of weeks ago, people had rattled through all 10 episodes and were baying for more - and it sounds like they could get it.

The drama centres on 17-year-old John B (played by Chase Stokes) who lives on the titular Outer Banks, an island chain in North Carolina - and his group of friends, the Pogues.

John B enlists the help of his pals JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey) and Pope (Jonathan Daviss) to help him search for a legendary multi-million-dollar treasure that he reckons is linked to his dad's disappearance.

The show's beautiful setting has given viewers a bit of lockdown escapism, but it was over all too quickly for fans who binged through the series. However, Jonas Pate - one of the show's creators - says he and the other co-creators always envisaged the show running for four or five series, with Netflix having 'green-lit' a second series script.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: "Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons.

"We've sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I'm just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.

"Before [season 1] even came out, Netflix had green-lit us to write some [season 2] scripts, so we've been working on that for a few months now."

Come on Netflix, get it confirmed.

For fans of the show, knowing so much more of the story has already been mapped out will be very exciting - although Netflix itself hasn't confirmed more series are coming yet.

Judging by the reaction on social media, there is certainly an appetite for more.

One happy viewer wrote: "I've just finished Outer Banks and it is the best show I've seen in my 21 years of life and I need a season two now!"

A second person joked: "How dare Netflix not have the second season of Outer Banks ready to release for me to watch after bingeing the first season in one day."

Pate added that he had plenty more twists up his sleeve, saying: "We love the mashup of friends on this fantasy thrilling adventure, and we feel like we really just played the opening round of that story.

"And now that the audience knows our characters and the baseline engine of the mystery is going, we just feel like we have a lot more good twists and turns left to explore, so we're excited for more."
