Fans say ‘heartstoppingly tense’ Daisy May Cooper thriller on BBC iPlayer has the best plot twist in British TV

The plot twist is a massive shock for viewers

When it comes to the best plot twists in British TV history, there are some very hard contenders to overcome.

British TV is full of top-class plot twists, whether it be the secret son reveal in The Traitors, Bad Wolf in Doctor Who, or just about every episode of Black Mirror ever made.

One particular twist, however, has been deemed the best, and it’s a Daisy May Cooper-led thriller, which you can watch on BBC iPlayer.

Daisy May Cooper is most well known for her comedic role in This Country, but that in no way means she doesn’t have the chops to pull off an all-time plot twist.

The show, called Am I Being Unreasonable?, was written by Cooper, who also stars as Nic.

Starring alongside Lenny Rush, the show got a great deal of acclaim for both its moment of levity and comedy and its heart pounding tense moments.

Am I Being Unreasonable? follows a young mother still effected by grief she can’t talk about.

The opening moments of the series show her flirting with a man on a train platform, with his jacket getting caught in the train doors, changing the moment from fun to horrifying in seconds.

While it is unclear what happens to him at first, it is implied that not was she having an affair with the man, but that he died as a result of his jacket getting caught.

The show is full of twists, but one moment in particular from each season stands out.

A recent Reddit thread in r/BritishTV asked the question about which plot twist was the best in British TV history, with one popular comment giving the honour to Am I Being Unreasonable?

Spoiler warning ahead for Am I Being Unreasonable?

The show reveals at the end of season one that the man Alex, played by David Fynn, was actually the brother of Nic’s husband Dan, and she was having an affair behind Dan and Alex’s wife’s back.

The end of season one reveals that the version of the train interaction we saw wasn’t exactly accurate. In actual fact Alex had gone to break things off with Nic, shockingly telling her the sex was ‘okay’ but that she needs to lose weight.

Cooper’s Nic then pulls his jacket into the train door, causing him to be pulled and hit by another train, killing him.

The moment is a massive shock, with one fan on TikTok even posting a video saying that the twist had ‘changed their brain chemistry’.

This shock is made even more insane by a reveal at the end of season two, but we’ll keep that spoiler hidden for now. One reply to the Reddit comment calling the first season's plot twist the best in British TV said: "I was stunned into silence. I love Daisy May Cooper."

Am I Being Unreasonable? was a massive critical success, sitting at 89 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Guardian’s Rachel Aroesti gave the show’s second season five stars, saying in their review: “This heartstoppingly tense thriller will leave your jaw on the floor – while having a script that never wastes a chance to be howlingly funny. It’s absolutely gripping.

“I don’t want to give any spoilers, suffice to say that by the time the end credits rolled my jaw was on the floor.”

Am I Being Unreasonable is available to watch for free on BBC iPlayer now.
