Viewers confused as BBC ‘leak Oasis announcement’ during World Cup coverage

Oasis fans got excited for a moment there...

A bunch of BBC viewers were left a bit confused yesterday during their World Cup coverage when a teaser for a date popped up with the Oasis branding.

Viewers were shown footage of the England football team singing the Oasis song 'Wonderwall' along with the fans after their 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening World Cup fixture.

The screen then cut to black with the date 23.06.26 appearing on the screen in bold font you'd probably associate with the Oasis logo, and wouldn't you know it that's today's date.

The most obvious explanation for all of this is that since they showed footage of the England team at the World Cup, today is their second game of the tournament and it's going to be shown on the BBC this is all just hyping viewers up for the football.

On top of that the Oasis-esque branding can be easily explained by the fact that players and fans singing 'Wonderwall' together became a powerful moment to cap off a wonderful night for the Three Lions.

But if you just look at it I'm sure you can see why it got some fans very excited, because if you use something that looks like the Oasis logo to announce a date then Oasis fans will hope there's a big announcement with the band coming.

"What will it be?" fans wondered, as they speculated about an announcement that the band might be 'touring again'.

After last year's remarkably successful reunion tour and the mad scramble for tickets which meant some music lovers missed out there's been a strong desire for Noel and Liam Gallagher to declare they're actually going to get on the road again.

While some said they 'might die from anticipation' and would 'lose their mind' if some kind of announcement was made, more rational commenters said it was 'literally advertising the England game'.

Following England's win against Croatia last week, the team celebrated while fans sang Oasis hit ‘Wonderwall’ as it was blared out around the AT&T Stadium.

Harry Kane said afterwards: “That was one of my favourite ever moments in an England shirt and especially at a major tournament. I know it’s just the first game, and we’re not getting carried away, but just that emotional connection with the fans, we know how much it means to them.

“I think they see how much it means to us. We have that connection right now, but just that moment, singing ‘Wonderwall’ in the stadium, everyone knew the words, and that was a really special moment, I thought."

Sorry if you got your hopes up gang, but hopefully you can salve your sorrow by watching England play against Ghana.
