‘Deadliest Catch’ star’s eerie final words to his kids before show captured his haunting last moments

Deadliest Catch viewers have been left heartbroken after seeing the final moments of fisherman Todd Meadows, whose last words to his children took on a devastating meaning following his death.

The 25-year-old deckhand died after falling overboard from the Aleutian Lady on 25 February 2026, with the tragedy later featuring in the finale of season 22.

Meadows was a father of three, with his children aged just one, two and four at the time of his death.

The episode began with a warning that it contains 'material which may be disturbing to some viewers.'

In footage filmed before the accident, he spoke to his family over FaceTime while out at sea.

It was a seemingly ordinary conversation between a dad and his children, which took a soul-destroying turn for the worse.

Knowing what happened afterwards makes the footage incredibly difficult to watch, as his children shared their hopes for him.

His daughter told him: “I hope you’re being safe. If you’re not being safe, you better be safe.”

Meadows reassured her, replying: “Oh, I’m being safe.”

He then spoke about going salmon fishing with his son when he returned home.

Meadows fell into the freezing Bering Sea later that day.

The programme did not broadcast footage of the actual fall, following a request from his family.

Instead, viewers saw the crew's desperate attempts to find and save him.

Captain Rick Shelford was in the wheelhouse when he found out that someone had gone overboard.

The crew immediately began a rescue operation, turning the boat around and preparing equipment to recover Meadows.

He was eventually pulled from the water, but was sadly unresponsive.

The crew performed CPR while Shelford contacted the US Coast Guard, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

According to PEOPLE, Meadows had been in the water for six minutes and 26 seconds.

His death was later recorded as drowning with probable hypothermia and was ruled an accident.

Towards the end of the episode, Deadliest Catch returned to footage of Meadows talking about his children.

He was asked what message he wanted to leave for them.

“Work towards your dreams and goals, don’t let anything slow you down,” he said. “If you put your mind to it, you can do anything.”

It was a heartbreaking final message for his children to hold onto.

Meadows had previously spoken about his hopes of becoming an Alaskan fisherman and his desire to provide for his young family.

For those who knew him, he was more than a fisherman appearing on a popular television series.

He was a young dad working thousands of miles from home to give his children a better life.

His mother, Angela Meadows, had previously spoken about the pain of losing her son and asked Discovery not to show footage of his death.

“No parent would want the world to watch their child die,” she said, according to PEOPLE.

Meadows was simply getting on with his job, thinking about his family and looking forward to going home, but did not know that he would never make it back.

His final words to his children now serve as a deeply personal reminder of the father he was.
