One of the stars of Deadliest Catch Todd Meadows was announced yesterday, March 3, to have died while filming the reality series.
Meadows was a familiar face on the TV show as one of the deckhands. The US series follows crab fishermen on ships in the Bering Sea, often facing choppy waters and dangerous situations.
Meadows died February 25 whilst filming the reality show’s 22nd series with an investigation into his death saying he ‘fell overboard’ crab fishing on the Aleutian Lady.
The tragic incident however is not the first time that the show has seen deaths, as several crew-members have previously died during filming on the dangerous TV show.
Captain Phil Harris

Advert
Arguably the most shocking death prior to Meadows in the history of the show, Captain Phil had a stroke whilst filming season six.
Heading to his cabin complaining of feeling tired, Phil was found on the floor unable to get up. The ship captain, who had been on the show since season one, insisted that camera crews keep filming despite the ongoing medical emergency.
He was placed in a medically induced coma though was later removed, living just a few more days but being able to say goodbye to his two sons.
Todd Kochutin

Fan favourite Todd appeared in only five episodes of the show and passed away due to an incident that was filmed but never aired.
Dying at just 30 years old, he worked as a greenhorn on the Patricia Lee fishing boat. Todd died after being struck by an 800-pound crab pot.
The ship’s captain Rick Shelford issued a tribute, saying they ‘lost thir brother’, adding: “Todd will forever be part of this boat, this crew, and this brotherhood. Though we lost him far too soon, his legacy will live on through his children and in every memory we carry of him.”
The Crew of Ocean Challenger and Destination
Two different ships have fully capsized or sank in the history of the show, killing the majority of the crew members on board.
The Ocean Challenger sank in 2006, leaving only one survivor from the expedition, with high waves preventing anyone from getting onto a life raft.
The Destination capsized 11 years later after being weighed down by 340,000 pounds of ice.
Six men died the accident and, whilst the incident did not take place during filming, they did film Captain Sig Hansen learning the news that his friends on the boat had likely died.
The captain is left in tears, telling cameras: “I know you want me to probably say something.
“But maybe just give me a little bit, and I’ll tell you what I think, okay?"
Several other members of the crews filmed in the show have died in incidents that took place away from filming, including Captain Tony Lara, who took over from Phil Harris and died of a heart attack.
