Grey's Anatomy fans have been left broken-hearted following an emotional tribute to Eric Dane in a recent episode of the medical drama.

The 53-year-old sadly passed away recently following a battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), leaving a touching tribute to his two daughters in a Netflix interview that was released shortly after his death.

His family said in a statement: "With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.

"He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the centre of his world.

"Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight.

"He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time."

Dane was best known for his role as Dr Mark Sloan, or 'McSteamy' in Grey's Anatomy, while he also appeared in Euphoria, with his character also set to feature in the upcoming third season.

But it was his recurring role in the hit American drama which made him so beloved among fans, and they were treated to one final appearance following Thursday's episode.

Posting on social media, the official account shared a highlights clip of some of his best moments, including his relationship with Lexie Grey.

The video poignantly ended with Dane's character saying: ‘Don’t waste one single minute’. You can watch it below.

It's certainly proven to be a tear-jerker, with fans responding emotionally as they say goodbye to his character for the final time.

"I can’t take it, this song, all these unforgettable moments, our McSteamy, you will be forever missed Eric,’ SarahB wrote on X.

"Grey’s Anatomy held a special place in my heart for years…. McSteamy and Lexie in particular. Watching Eric grow as an actor and then become a disability advocate was inspiring, and I’m grateful the show took the time to honour him,’ Kelly added.

"I am completely shattered,’ tivaswiftie shared.

"Shattered me this," swinconnor agreed.

"If you love someone, you tell them, even if you’re scared that it’s not the right thing. Even if you’re scared that it’ll burn your life to the ground, you say it and you say it loud.”

"RIP, Eric Dane. Thank you for all of the memories. McSteamy forever," MaxJGao posted.
