Frankie Muniz has spoken out about reports that he doesn’t remember filming Malcolm in the Middle, clarifying what his memory issues actually are.
Muniz is best known for his role as Malcolm in the iconic TV sitcom and appeared on a new podcast to discuss the upcoming reboot, his other beloved role as Agent Cody Banks, and his new career as a NASCAR driver.
The actor will be amongst the majority of the original cast of the sitcom to be returning for the upcoming revival mini-series of the show.
Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are both returning as Hal and Lois, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are returning as Francis and Reese, and Muniz is obviously back as Malcolm.

The only major actor not coming back is Erik Per Sullivan, the actor who played Dewey, who has retired from Hollywood and will be replaced in the reboot by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.
Much of the attention will turn to what must be a bizarre moment for Muniz in returning to the role due to the fact that he has stated in the past he barely remembers filming it.
The actor stated previously that he had nine concussions over the course of his young life, however, hit out at the idea that he doesn’t remember that he played the role.
He clarified in an interview with Steve-O on his podcast in late 2021 that he has a ‘bad memory’, stating that he struggles to distinguish much of his memory between if it’s a dream or reality.

He spoke again about his memory in his new appearance on the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis.

Regarding his memory issues, Muniz said that a large influencing factor for that is his career as an actor.
He was asked whether he’d consider writing a memoir or book about his life, to which he said: “I think it would be hard for me because I have a hard time distinguishing reality and dreams.
“I’ve done so much that I don’t even believe the things I’ve done… it’s almost like an out of body experience.

“I think I did so much at such a young age … I don’t even stop moving.

“As an actor you take on a script, a role, someone’s emotions and someone’s problems… you do it for that day and you forget it and you get another emotion or go back to your life.
“Since I was eight years old I’ve had to do things and be things then forget it and now I do that with a lot of my real life.”
Speaking about the upcoming reboot, Muniz said that himself and Bryan Cranston had first started discussing a return to Malcolm in the Middle over ten years ago.

Despite his NASCAR schedule making things difficult the actor stated he would ‘never’ turn down the chance to be part of the reboot and was thrilled he managed to make it work.
