Gogglebox star Daniel Lustig has spoken out about the reasons behind his ‘unhappy’ divorce from husband Stephen Webb.

Stephen Webb and Daniel Lustig have been some of the most iconic faces to grace the hit Channel 4 show.

However, hearts were broken when the pair announced last year that they'd be stepping away from the show, with Stephen in particular being a staple of Gogglebox since 2013.

And even more sadly so, after being married for six years, the Gogglebox duo announced their divorce to The Sun in April of this year.

Despite this, the couple are still living in the flat they purchased in 2021 together, while it is on the market waiting to be sold.

Stephen is currently filming E4’s reality show, Celebs Go Dating, all while living with his soon to be ex-husband.

Now, in a new interview with Okay! Magazine, Daniel has opened up about what went on in the lead up to the difficult decision to call it quits.

He said: “Neither one of us wanted to be unhappy. When we called time on it, yes it was very upsetting, because when you get married and walk down the aisle you don't think that's ever going to happen, you can't think that, you have to think positively.”

The pair decided that they would be better off as friends, as Daniel added: “We got to the point where we'd talked about the breakup, about why we were breaking up, how we were going to go through it, and how we were both feeling.

"When we both felt in a stable place and a bit more confident, and also there for each other, that's when we put it out."

Fans were shocked about Stephen’s decision to go on the dating show after learning that the pair still lived together.

But when asked if he thought it was ‘too soon’ in a previous interview with The Sun, Daniel said: “No not at all, it's something that’s gone on for a while and he’ll be a very good candidate.

“Anything he goes on to do, I'll definitely support him and watch. He's got some very very funny stories if he is going on it."

Celebs Go Dating have now wrapped filming for the series, and viewers can expect to see stars such as Helen Flanagan, and Ella Morgan.

Daniel explained that out of respect, Stephen did not share with him what encounters he had experienced on the show.
