Former I'm A Celeb campmates explain major impact Ant and Dec's covered watches have on them in camp

ITV bosses have explained the rule

Two former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here campmates have dished the dirt on why Ant and Dec have their watches covered at all times.

This year's I'm A Celeb is now fully underway, with viewers opting to torment radio presenter Dean McCullough by voting him for various trials while eliminations are looming just around the corner.

Despite being a staple on ITV for 22 years fans are still surprised by various bits of I'm A Celeb trivia every year, with questions such as what items are prohibited in camp, what food rations do contestants get every day and does the camp have a secret roof among the ones which have circulated online so far.

But have you ever noticed that Ant and Dec will always have the faces of their watches covered during filming?

Turns out there's a very specific reason for it.

Hiding clocks and watches while filming a TV show makes sense for continuity reasons, as it would be pretty distracting for viewers to see the time jumping back and forth due to changes made in the editing room.

Viewers have often wondered why this is the case as well, with one person noting on social media after a recent episode: "Is Ant's watch covered because of cameras or because of the sun reflection? @antanddec or am I seeing things?"

"I don't get why do Ant & Dec have their watches always covered #ImACeleb," a second viewer admitted.

Turns out the real reason is less to do with filming and instead to keep contestants completely in the dark about every aspect of the outside world.

Confirming the reason for covering watch faces, ITV bosses explained: "Ant & Dec's watches are covered to stop the celebs finding out what time it is.

"They have no idea, as there are no clocks in camp."

And it turns out that Ant and Dec aren't the only people walking around with stickers on their watches either.

Back in 2017 former contestants Scarlett Moffatt and Joel Dommett explained during an episode of I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp that everyone who the celebrities interact with is subject to the rule.

"It's so the campmates don't know the time, so all the watches are covered for the people that see the campmates all the time, like Ant, Dec and Medic Bob," she explained.

"I think it’s just so you’re really disorientated, like we had no concept of time."
