I'm A Celebrity camp forced into lockdown after savage bear attack

ITV have launched an I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! spin-off which has hit some problems after the camp was reportedly placed into 'lockdown' following a bear attack in the area.

The new show is called I’m A Celebrity…The Wild Frontier and rather than sending a bunch of famous faces to Australia they're getting packed off to Canada.

It's not a replacement for the regular I'm A Celeb action but the location change has brought a new danger from the wildlife, as The Sun reports that a nearby bear attack on a hiker has led to increased security measures.

A woman was airlifted to hospital after being attacked on Friday (4 September) near Conflict Lake, which is close to where the I'm A Celeb spin-off is meant to be taking place.

Public access routes have been closed and a black bear has been killed in the area due to safety concerns, the CBC reports that a group of three hikers met two bears at around 5pm local time on Friday and a woman was attacked before they ran off, she was taken to hospital to be treated for a severely lacerated leg and is in a stable condition.

I'm A Celeb has reportedly put a 'ring of steel' around their camp with electric fences and metal food lockers that are meant to stop bears from breaking in.

Security is also on site to prevent intrusion from the outside world.

Filming sites for the show are typically well protected from the public to stop people from getting in and interfering with the show, but there are crew members nearby to quickly attend to things if they go wrong.

The whole place is already rigged up with canopies and cameras to shelter the campmates and also make sure they can be filmed doing what they're getting up to.

Filming on I'm A Celebrity... The Wild Frontier has already started, so the show's production appears to be going ahead as usual.

One of the other changes this spin-off has made to the format besides upping sticks and going to the other side of the world is pairing off campmates so they have to do everything together, including getting eliminated.

Only one half of the pair needs to be famous as the other could be a friend, relative or partner, and the new series is going to be appearing on people's screens next year.

As for this year's regular version of I'm A Celeb, a plethora of celebrities have been rumoured to be sought out for the show including Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs, Big Brother presenter AJ Odudu and former Strictly Come Dancing professional Nadiya Bychkova.
