Staff who quit Jeremy Clarkson's pub explained the problems they had before leaving the next day

The final episodes in season four of Clarkson's Farm cover a lot of the issues around the opening of his pub, The Farmer's Dog.

But while the public caught wind of some of the issues that befell Clarkson, getting a first-person view to some of the chaos has given viewers a new perspective on events.

Episodes of the long-awaited Prime Video series have been dropped sporadically in recent weeks, though the final two episodes have been released today (6 May).

Moving the focus away from Diddly Squat Farm and towards Clarkson's health and the focus on his pub, fans were given a sobering insight into how difficult it really is to prepare, open, and run a pub.

It was so stressful in fact, that senior staff quit after pouring their complaints out to the former Top Gear presenter.

What and where is Jeremy Clarkson's pub?

It's called The Farmer's Dog, and it's located in Burford, Oxfordshire, in the heart of the Cotswolds.

Clarkson officially opened the establishment in August 2024, to a number of logistical issues, though things have seemed to calm down since then.

It's one of the main focuses of the fourth season of Clarkson's Farm, and while we believed that the biggest problems were with the sheer amount of visitors, it turns out that it was far more serious than that.

While visitors have complained about the costs in the pub since its opening, Clarkson claimed that he actually loses a tenner every time someone eats there.

So, how hard were things before its grand opening?

Every problem was documented in the series, resulting in some members of staff walking out on the first day itself.

While customer demands and serious issues were shown on screen, Clarkson was also dealing with a leaky roof, no gas, and a man losing his balance in the pub.

Speaking to Charlie Ireland at the end of the day, the TV personality stated: "We've lost two waitresses. We lost a pot washer. After one day."

He goes on: "Lights are still flickering. Lights flickered off..."

But things got worse.

Why did more staff quit?

Clarkson goes on to have a serious chat with front of house staff Sue and Rachel in the upstairs bar at the pub.

The pair admit that things aren't going well, and even ask him to go into the kitchen for a second time to thank staff for their hard work amid the chaos.

Explaining that there are 'too many problems' in the way of running a 'successful business', they added: "Everyone is exhausted, even when we say go for a break, there is no staff room."

"They're weeing in a portaloo. It's not lovely conditions. They love you. They're excited about the British food," Sue and Rachel said.

While Clarkson highlighted that he has 'no problem with the staff', the pair went on: "The kitchen is about to go pop, those chefs have had it.... It might be worth popping into the kitchen."

But this suggestion didn't go down well with Clarkson, who had recently gone in to show his gratitude, as they replied: "Go back."

"What? Do you want me to go and find a manager? Or go back into the kitchen?" he snapped.

Clarkson then goes on a sarcastic rant, saying: "Or do you want me to the leak mended? Or do you want me to deal with the car parking issues? Or do you want me to deal with the neighbours? Do you want me to deal with the council? I've got plenty to be doing and I'll get on with it. Thank you."

Tired from the full days of preparing the pub and working on the harvest at night, Clarkson's battery was running low.

That conversation would turn out to be the last that he'd have with Sue and Rachel, as they walked out the next day, to Clarkson's disappointment.

Luckily, he got the head of sixth form at a local school to work the front of house, after Sue and Rachel 'brilliantly set the pub up', in Clarkson's words.

In the final scene of the season, the core members of Clarkson's Farm can be seen having a lunch at a nearby pub as they couldn't 'relax' at their own pub, and they toast 'to The Farmer's Dog', and then 'to the farmers'.

Season four of Clarkson's Farm is available to stream now on Prime Video.
