Jeremy Clarkson responds after ‘embarrassing’ Who Wants to Be a Millionaire mistake

Jeremy Clarkson responds after ‘embarrassing’ Who Wants to Be a Millionaire mistake

Viewers reckon the TV star needs to brush up on his general knowledge

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire viewers reckon that host Jeremy Clarkson ought to brush up on some of his general knowledge after watching Sunday night's episode.

Brits tuning into the reboot of the legendary show on ITV were left stunned when the 63-year-old made an 'embarassing' mistake when a contestant was counting on his intelligence.

Clarkson found himself in the hot seat in the episode which aired last night (3 March) when Ivo Yordanov, from Maida Vale in West London, turned to him for help while answering a question about a UK politician.

The bloke, who was continuing his Who Wants to Be a Millionaire journey from last week, got off to quite a good start and made his way up to £4,000.

But his streak of fortune looked like it was about to grind to a halt when he was left scratching his head over the question he was presented with which could have earned him £8,000.

So much so, that he was forced to rely on the 'ask the host' lifeline while hoping and praying that Clarkson knew what he was talking about.

The question was: "What position was Mark Drakeford reappointed to in 2021?"

Ivo had four answers to choose from: attorney general, first minister of Wales, head of the civil service, or first minister of Northern Ireland, but was still left stumped.

Unfortunately for the contestant, Clarkson admitted he had also 'never heard of' Mark Drakeford and would be no use.

Ivo then decided to phone a friend - but his pal also didn't have a clue who the fella was, forcing him to then having to use his 50/50 lifeline to assist him in taking a wild guess.

If you weren't aware, Mark Drakeford is the First Minister for Wales - which Ivo was thankfully able to work out with a stab in the dark when he reduced the answers on the board to just two.

Viewers were left stunned that nobody knew who Mark Drakeford was, but they were especially surprised that Clarkson wasn't aware of the politician.

One social media user said: "What is Jeremy Clarkson on tonight?! First he didn’t have a clue who Mark Drakeford is, and then he thought Gosforth is in Leeds!"

Another laughed: "The contestant, Jeremy Clarkson and the phone a friend had all never heard of Mark Drakeford."

A third added: "Unbelievable that Jeremy Clarkson doesn’t know who Mark Drakeford is!"

And a fourth chimed in: "Flipping heck, Jeremy Clarkson has never heard of Mark Drakeford? Has he been living under a rock?"

Others pointed out that The Grand Tour star had even recently tweeted about Drakeford's controversial farming policies, saying they were 'completely daft'.

As the jokes rolled in about his gap in knowledge, Clarkson took to Twitter to clear things up.

He wrote: "To be clear. This Millionaire was recorded more than a year ago. I know who Drakeford is now!!!"

As for Ivo, he ended up leaving the show with just £1,000 after fumbling the next few questions - but at least the job role of Drakeford is now drummed into him.
