Jeremy Clarkson's pub finally removes 'weird' rule after major breakthrough

Clarkson's Farmer's Dog pub has made a big change to one of their most controversial rules

Jeremy Clarkson’s pub The Farmer’s Dog has finally removed a ‘weird’ rule nearly a year after it opened its doors.

The Farmer’s Dog was the focus of season four of Clarkson’s Farm where the former Top Gear host decided to open up an all-British farm.

Spurred on by his time working as a British farmer in which he has come to learn all the perils and obstacles that come with it, he instituted a strict rule at the pub.

This rule stated that The Farmer’s Dog would only use British produce and British drinks. Whilst the idea is great in theory, this meant a lot of things simply could not be sourced for the pub.

Ketchup and Coca-Cola were all banned as they could not be sourced entirely British, and things like black pepper are not used because they are ‘ten times more expensive’ to source in the UK, according to Clarkson.

Many visiting Clarkson's pub branded the rule 'weird' and stated it was bizarre to eat certain meals without pepper or ketchup.

The rule on ketchup has now changed, however, after a TikTok condiments company made a major breakthrough.

The group ‘Condimaniac’ are a British condiments company, who have been operating since 2019, posted on TikTok in May that they had found out that Clarkson’s pub did not ketchup.

They set out to sort this, documenting the obstacles and difficulties that come with trying to make a 100 per cent British version of the sauce.

Condimaniac announced earlier this month that they had succeeded, and yesterday revealed that The Farmer’s Dog would now be stocking their sauce.

They said they had travelled down to the Cotswolds to allow people who work at Clarkson’s pub to try the condiment, with Condimaniac’s ketchup passing the test.

Footage shows the chefs at the pub saying that the ketchup is ‘close to Heinz’, who themselves commented congratulating the company.

The new break to the rule unfortunately comes with a slight catch, however.

Whilst The Farmer’s Dog will stock the ketchup in their pub and shop, it can only be bought as whole bottles, not as a complimentary condiment for your meal.

This led to some criticism on TikTok, with one person saying: “I thought the whole point was so people can have some with their meal, not have to buy a bottle.”

Another said: “Well done! Bit sh*t that Guests have to buy a whole bottle if they want ketchup in their breakfast sandwich though.”

Others came to the pub’s defence, however, pointing out that it would for now be too expensive until it can be proven to justify mass manufacturing.

Those wanting to have ketchup on their meal though will have to pay a whopping price for a 100 per cent British version of the sauce, as currently the sauce costs £7.95 on Condimaniacs online store, which can be found here.

Expensive or not however, the overwhelming sentiment was simply congratulating the company for figuring out how to make the sauce 100 per cent British.
