Lucy Beaumont made an incredibly kind gesture after losing a contestant a life-changing amount of money on an episode of The Wheel.

Thanks to stints on TV shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Celebrity Gogglebox and Would I Lie to You?, Beaumont has become one of the most recognisable faces in British comedy.

And it turns out she's also extremely generous.

Earlier today, the 41-year-old revealed that she was hoping to raise some funds after losing a contestant on Michael McIntyre's The Wheel close to £80k in prize money.

For anyone who rarely leaves streaming platforms, The Wheel is a gameshow which features celebrities seated in a 'human roulette wheel' and designated as an expert in a certain subject.

A contestant is selected and then - after several spins of the wheel - they are matched up with one of the designated celebrity experts and tasked with answering a series of questions.

Get the question right and you can win £3,000 - or a whopping £10k if you land on a 'gold' celebrity expert - get the question wrong and you're sent back down to the lower contestant wheel.

It all sounds very complicated for a TV gameshow, but the gist of it is this: if a contestant is able to answer enough correct questions then they'll win a life changing amount of cash.

Which means there is also a lot of pressure on the celebrity participants to aid their contestant in getting the answers correct.

Which is why Beaumont was left feeling a little guilty after losing one contestant £79k due to advising them towards the wrong answer.

The young man in question had been hoping to donate any of his winnings to Maggie's – a charity which provides support for cancer patients and their families as well as bereavement services.

Feeling remorseful about the situation, Beaumont took to Instagram to ask for support in putting on a charity comedy show to recover the funds, adding that the contestant was a cancer survivor himself.

"I lost a cancer survivor 79 thousand pounds (I've done the show before and lost someone £98k)," she wrote, going on to describe the contestant as a 'Newcastle lad' and 'top bloke'.

She followed up by asking if any of her followers could put her in contact with Newcastle city hall in order to host a comedy charity night to raise some money for the cause, adding: "I'll put my hand in my back pocket too."

The kind gesture was well received among the comedian's followers, with many people offering their support with planning the event.

"This is such a generous, kind thing to do," penned one follower, while a second person wrote: "Urgh I love this. Don't kick yourself, but at the same time, yes let's get money raised."

"You didn’t lose anyone money, it’s a game show - it’s risk reward. Great thing to do," a third added.
