Brits have been urged to watch Rami Malek's 'near-perfect' crime thriller series which is currently available to binge watch for free.

Malek may be best known for his role Oscar-winning depiction of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and his villainous role in Daniel Craig's final James Bond film No Time to Die, but the actor arguably made his name in this lesser-known series directed by Sam Esmail.

Originally premiering back in 2015 and running for four seasons, Mr Robot tells the story of a cybersecurity engineer turned hacker - and the series has been branded the 'greatest show ever' by viewers and critics alike.

Malek plays the lead role of Elliot Alderson, a 'brilliant but highly unstable young cyber-security engineer and vigilante hacker' who suffers from social anxiety, depression and dissociative identity disorder.

Struggling to find his place in the world, Elliot is recruited by a mysterious hactivist known as 'Mr. Robot' (Christian Slater) who leads a team known as fsociety.

The hackers' main aim? To cancel all consumer debt by encrypting all information held by a fictional corporation called E Corp, who also happens to be a major client at Elliot's company Allsafe.

Carly Chaikin, Portia Doubleday and Martin Wallstrom also star in the series.

Although Mr Robot wasn't hugely well known during its four-year run, the series has a huge cult following and remains highly rated on both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb.

Mr Robot enjoys a rare consensus between both critics and general audiences on the review aggregator site, with scores of 94 percent and 93 percent respectively. The series also won Malek an Emmy for his work as Elliot in 2016.

Fans have raved about the series frequently across social media, with many viewers often joking that real-life cybersecurity breaches are like Mr Robot episodes.

"Just finished rewatching MR ROBOT cuz this might be the greatest show ever created on this fkin planet cuz I wanna rewatch it over again & again man it’s even better than Breaking Bad, Sam Esmail and Rami Malek just take a bow. What geniuses. Fkin nailed it. Whaaaata masterpiece," one person penned on Twitter.

"This show demands multiple viewing tbh I’m out of words to describe the writing, it was next level," a second person wrote, adding: "Mr Robot is still playing in my head. Pure acting masterclass from all the cast and crew. Elliot will forever be my fav character."

"This show is a masterpiece from the first minute to the last second," a third commented.

If Mr. Robot sounds like something you'd enjoy watching, the series is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video (for a fee) as well as being available to watch free on ITVX.
