Charity issues urgent warning over 'distressing' and 'triggering' scene in Monster

A charity has taken to social media with a warning about a distressing scene in the Netflix series Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.
The show is a fictionalised version of the life of Lizzie Borden, who was accused and acquitted of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe. It also jumps forward in time, touching on the story of Aileen Wuornos, a serial killer who was executed by lethal injection in 2002.
There are several distressing scenes in the show, and a charity has put out an advisory for one scene in particular.

Sands, a charity which supports parents who have lost children, issued a warning on its social media pages to anyone who might find it upsetting.
This was simply to advise anyone who may find that particularly hard that they may want to give it a miss, or if they did choose to watch then they would know it was coming.
In the post, they warned that the show contains a scene in which a baby dies, meaning that it may be particularly distressing or triggering to people who have gone through such a tragedy in real life.
"We wanted to let you know that the Netflix series, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, features the death of a baby in episode 4, which some of you may find upsetting," the charity wrote in a statement shared on Facebook.
It added: "Please remember that we are here for you if this has affected you."
People took to the comments to respond to the post, with one writing: "I just want to say thank you for these trigger warnings you post, they help me (and I’m sure others) approach content differently and let me judge if I want to watch it or not."
They added: "Keep up the good work."
Another wrote: "It shocked me and my other half, very distressing so please be careful when watching guys, other than that it is a fantastic watch!"
A third replied: "Thank you so much for telling me I would of been so upset watching that".
Other posts alluded to how graphic the scene is, portraying the violent death of a newborn.
It's not the only scene in the drama series which has caught people's attention either.
Another graphic scene saw two characters violently throwing up for an extended period after being deliberately fed a batch of bad oysters, in the hope that the resulting terrible food poisoning would finish them off altogether.
The scene was particularly graphic, and co-star Rebecca Hall was nervous in the lead-up to filming it, as it was achieved using carefully hidden pumps which would send the fake vomit spewing over the set.
On the day however, she found herself struggling not to laugh.
“It was so funny and preposterous, and nothing was remotely like real vomiting, actually,” she said. “It turned out that my biggest challenge was maintaining a straight face when the camera was on me, because I don’t think I’ve ever laughed more."
Despite this, she did take one thing away from the shoot, saying: “I never wanna, as long as I live, see a bowl of tomato soup ever, ever, ever again. I really liked grilled cheese and tomato soup, but it is over for me now forever.”
