Fourth season of Netflix’s Monster series ‘in the works’ with killer revealed

The anthology series has covered the Menendez brothers and Jeffrey Dahmer

A fourth season season of Netlfix's hit anthology series Monster is in the works – and the show has reportedly chosen a new grisly case to spotlight.

According to a report from Variety, the Ryan Murphy led show will head back to 1893 to unpack the infamous story of Lizzie Borden - a woman accused of killing her father and stepmother with an axe - as its next story.

Netflix declined to comment on the reports - the show is yet to be officially renewed for a fourth season - however the outlet believes filming will commence later this year.

Netflix has so far released two seasons of its Monster anthology - The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story - with a third instalment titled The Original Monster set to hit our screens later this year.

Who is Lizzie Borden?

Lizzie Borden was born in Massachusetts in 1860. In August 1892 she would find herself the main suspect in a murder case, after her father and stepmother were found deceased in their home.

Both Andrew Borden and Abby Durfee Gray had been murdered with an axe. Lizzie was subsequently arrested and charged with both murders, however a lack of key evidence meant that she was later acquitted of the killings.

The case remains unsolved to this day.

In the meantime, Charlie Hunnam is confirmed to be playing the lead role in the third season.

What is the third season of Monster about?

Hunnam will be playing Ed Gein, who was also known as ‘The Butcher of Plainfield’.

Gein was confirmed to have killed two people and suspected of killing several more. He was also accused of 'grave robbing'.

The horrific murderer had even created a ‘house of horrors’ in his home, dismembering dead bodies and turning their body parts into household items and even clothes.
