Netflix have ranked the definitive ‘best Tommy Shelby moment’ ahead of the release of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man – with Cillian Murphy giving his reaction.
Murphy is returning as Tommy in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, with the Shelby family patriarch being undeniably the most iconic part of the BBC series.
The Immortal Man has debuted to a whopping 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, showing that the film appears to be living up to the lofty standards set by the TV show.
Despite this, many will be wondering what Netflix ranked the greatest Tommy Shelby moment – and more important what Cillian Murphy made of it all.
10 - “Polly was half of me” - Season 6, Episode 6

Advert
Included at number ten was Tommy killing Michael with the iconic line ‘Polly was half of me’. The Irish actor said the cast were ‘bereft’ making season six after the death of Helen McCrory, with this being turned into a storyline in which Aunt Polly was killed by the IRA.
9 - “Thomas Shelby himself” - Season 6, Episode 6

At number nine was one of the last moments in the entire series – Tommy confronting the doctor who convinced him he was dying to try convince him to kill himself, a moment Steven Knight called a ‘turning point’ when he decides not to shoot him.
8 - “The House Burns Down” - Season 1, Episode 3

A moment from season one sees Tommy quip to Grace that his suits are on the house ‘or the house burns down’, with Cillian saying that this was the ‘first time he falls in love’ since he came back from the war.
7 - “You crossed the line, Alfie” - Season 3, Episode 6

In a scene that has gone viral on social media approximately 1,000 times since it first was aired, Tommy and Alfie come head-to-head over their differing views. Whilst Tommy believes in having a moral code and lines you do not cross, Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomon questions the logic when Tommy himself has ‘butchered’ countless families.
6 – “Tommy’s vision of Ruby” – Season 6, Episode 6

In the season finale Tommy is on the verge of killing himself when his late daughter Ruby comes to him in a vision, saving his life. How much he should be thanking her for that will entirely depend on what state we find him in at the start of The Immortal Man.
5 - “Perhaps in the Next” – Season 4, Episode 6

This is a simple but telling moment for Tommy’s character, responding when told to rest that he has no time to rest in this life, but ‘perhaps in the next’.
4 – “There is God” – Season 5, Episode 3

Cillian points to how the Peaky Blinders ‘do not care very much for the institution of the church’ or for ‘kids being mistreated in an institution’. In this scene Tommy and Polly threaten a nun, something that is surprisingly perfectly in character for the pair.
3 – “No f*cking fighting” – Season 3, Episode 1

If you ask many Peaky Blinders fans this was robbed from number one on the list, with Tommy reminding the extended Shelby family he wants no fighting at his wedding before shoving a waiter for bumping into him. Cillian revealed this was the line most frequently yelled at him in the street, saying: “I’ve no intention of getting into a brawl!”
2 – “Nearly got f*cking everything” – Season 2, Episode 6

In an episode Steven Knight called an essential rewatch before the upcoming film, Tommy accepts his death after being grabbed by the government’s men after his plan to trick Chester Campbell almost goes off without a hitch. Cillian called it his ‘number one’ moment, saying that he assumed reading the script this was the end of Tommy before one of the men revealed himself to be secretly working for Churchill.
1 – “Already broken” – Season 2, Episode 2

As pointed out by fans on Instagram, all three of the greatest moments of Tommy’s involved Grace in some way. Cillian called it an ‘unusually tender’ choice for the show, with it simply being a moment in which Grace warns she’ll break Tommy’s heart before he says its ‘already broken’. In retrospect knowing how Tommy and Grace's romance ends, this is an especially heartbreaking moment.
