Scrubs creator hinted how long reboot would go on as it’s confirmed after 15 years with major stars set to return

Major stars from the original show are confirmed to be returning for the reboot

After 15 years, it has finally been confirmed: Scrubs is coming back.

While the number of TV shows being brought back for nostalgia reboots is overwhelming, there is a real argument that Scrubs has more reason than nearly any to return.

The stars and creatives behind the show remain successful celebrities to this day, and the show’s final season, which saw a new cast of characters, was a massive disappointment.

For those worrying that the series will simply be returning for some kind of one-off special however, the creator of the show has already hinted as to how long it could go on.

This comes after major stars of the original show have confirmed their return in a report by Variety that announced the show’s series order.

Who is coming back for the Scrubs reboot?

Per Variety, the main trio of Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke are all coming back.

Dr JD, Turk, and Reid will all be returning, with the logline for the show saying that they will be ‘scrubbing together for the first time in a long time’.

There is no word yet on the return of John C McGinley as Dr Cox or Judy Reyes as Carla, but Variety’s report states that other original cast members are expected to return.

Bill Lawrence, the show’s creator, has confirmed he will be returning.

The TV writer has gone on to create a show almost as successful as Scrubs in Ted Lasso and, while Lasso is confirmed for a fourth season, the hiatus post-season three clearly was enough time for Lawrence to write a return for JD, Turk, and Elliot.

The news that Bill Lawrence was flirting with the idea of a Scrubs reboot was first confirmed in an exclusive interview with LADbible.

Opening up during the press tour for Bad Monkey last year, he confirmed that he wasn’t sure when but that it was definitely going to happen.

He went on to say: “Look, there's no huge drive because everybody's successful, and I think the show was on for like, 72 years, but the on the other hand, medical people over here right now are very heroic to me.”

He finally added however: “I'm open to it. I'm open to it, and I don't want to do it as a movie, but I'm definitely open to doing a couple more years of that show.

“It would not only be fun to see where the characters I used to love are now, but also to see what a young doctor nowadays looks like, as far as the kids coming in behind them, you know.”

The idea of the show not only coming back, but doing so for a ‘couple more years’ will be music to the ears of Scrubs fans around the world.

Star Zach Braff echoed similar sentiment speaking to Variety last year, saying: “The idea of getting back together with my friends and doing like 10 or 12 episodes of maybe one or two seasons, and just laughing with everyone? That sounds like a dream.”
