The school holidays may have only just begun, but we are more than ready for our next fix of Sex Education and now, Netflix has teased us by showing off first-look images for the fourth and final series.

After a long break, the show returns for its last ever season as the characters move on from Moordale Secondary School.

While Otis may have been breaking down barriers in his last school, the teenage sex therapist will find he has some, um, stiff competition as he enters sixth form.

Proving that puberty is painful wherever you are, the new series starts with Otis and Eric’s first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College.

Though their new school is pretty progressive, with daily yoga, a focus on sustainability and a group of kids who are popular for being kind (who'd have thought it, eh?), it turns out setting up a new sex clinic isn’t going to be as easy as they’d hoped.

The series will air in September.

Otis (Asa Butterfield) is still dealing with the fallout from saying goodbye to Maeve (Emma Mackey), as well as his breakup with Ruby (Mimi Keene).

Ruby is also reeling from the break-up.

He is also struggling to cope with the pressure of being an older brother, as mum Jean (Gillian Anderson) has her hands full this season.

To complicate things even further, he’s no longer the only sex therapist on campus.

Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) is also mourning his relationship with Adam (Connor Swindells) while trying to ensure he and his friend aren’t losers once again.

Meanwhile, Maeve is studying aboard at Wallace University with famous author Thomas Molloy (Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy) as her tutor - but is it enough to make her stay overseas?

Aimee-Lou Wood also reprises her role in the final series.

There is also a bevvy of other returning castmates, with Aimee-Lou Wood reprising the role of ditsy Aimee, who is tackling A-Level art having only recently discovered feminism.

Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu) is also thrown by Cavendish’s relaxed vibes and Adam is worried about whether he should still pursue education.

But will any of them rule the school?

Creator Laurie Nunn wrote a heart felt letter to fans ahead of the final series.
Netflix

Ahead of the final series, showrunner and creator Laurie Nunn wrote a letter to the fans explaining why the show is coming to an end.

In the heartfelt letter, she said it was ‘the right time to graduate’ as Sex Education’s themes and storylines changed over time.

We guess those school days can’t last forever, sadly.
