Netflix drops trailer for final Sex Education season as it confirms September 21 release date

Frankly, we don't think we're ready to say goodbye to the gang... even if we are excited for the next instalment

Netflix has dropped the trailer for the final season of Sex Education, and while we're excited for a new instalment, frankly, we don't think we're ready to say goodbye to the gang...

The fourth and final series is landing on Netflix on 21 September, as Otis Milburn and co. take on the new challenges of sixth-form life.

A tweet from the show's official account said: "It’s time to finish. The final season, coming September 21."

Netflix's fan site Tudum previously confirmed season four would be released at some point in 2023 after the last series came to an end in 2021.

This time, we see best friends Otis and Eric (Asa Butterfield and Ncuti Gatwa) prepare to take on an entirely new environment: Cavendish Sixth Form College.

Following the success of Otis' sex education clinic at Moordale, it's only natural that people should still want advice from him at the new school, but considering it's a pretty unusual hobby to discuss with new friends, naturally, he's nervous about how the whole thing will go down.

Otis has already put his foot in it with his new classmates.

"I spend a lot of time thinking about sex," he tells his new classmates in the trailer.

"I live and breathe sex all day, every day.

"Thinking about sex comes very naturally because I learned everything I know about sex from my mum."

Naturally, that last admission is met with a fair amount of shock from the room, as Otis quickly adds: "I'm not in a sexual relationship with my mother!"

The group are now at a new sixth form college.

Eric then stands up to save him, shouting: "For goodness' sake, tell them you're a sex therapist!"

Maeve, meanwhile, is living it up in the States, which is where cast newcomer Dan Levy (Schitt's Creek) enters as her teacher and cult author Thomas Molloy.

A synopsis says: "Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, the students are navigating new territory at the high-tech and progressive Cavendish Sixth Form College.

"It’s every health and wellness nut’s dream with yoga on the lawn, a strong sustainability vibe and even a rival sex therapist on campus.

"This rivalry isn’t the only thing bothering Otis (Asa Butterfield), as he’s also juggling a long-distance relationship with Maeve (Emma Mackey).

The final season welcomes newcomer Dan Levy.
Netflix

"She’s living her dream at the prestigious Wallace University in the US and being taught by cult author Thomas Molloy, played by Levy."

Butterfield, who plays Otis in the series, has previously told GQ there'll be a lot of new things to take in in the new series.

“We're in the new school, new locations, and things have changed up a bit. And we've got some new characters," he explained.

"The show's definitely sort of evolved somewhat, but it's still got the core team involved and it's been fun. I mean, we all know each other so well at this point, so it's a great time and it's a laugh."
