South Park episode banned over fears it was too dangerous to kids

South Park episode banned over fears it was too dangerous to kids

There have been a few episodes of South Park banned over the years

It's not exactly a daring statement to say that South Park can get a little bit controversial at times.

The show has attracted all sorts of complaints over the years so in a way it's quite surprising that only a handful of episodes have been banned.

While South Park is definitely not a kids show one of their episodes did end up getting banned over fears of what kids might do if they saw it.

That's only one of the reasons why South Park episodes ended up getting banned.

Let's run through the list and reveal which episodes of the show you can't see.

South Park's first episode to get banned was the show's fifth.

'An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig', season one, episode five

With a name like that you've got to wonder about the people who ever thought this show was supposed to be for children.

Anyhow, this was one of the first episodes South Park ever made and the first one to be hit by censorship.

In the episode there's a running thing where Stan gets repeatedly beaten up by his sister Shelley, and in the original cut of the episode there's a scene where she repeatedly lights him on fire before dousing him with water.

The episode in its original form was banned after a house fire was blamed on a child copying behaviour they'd seen on an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head, so the fire scene from South Park had to go.

It's not like the rest of South Park is meant for kids either, but this scene has stayed out of the episode ever since.

While you can watch 'An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig' now the scene has been edited out.

Released largely without incident at the time, a later backlash saw this episode banned.

'Super Best Friends', season five, episode three

While this episode didn't cause much of a stir when it first released it ended up getting caught in the blast that was targeted at some of the other episodes on this list.

A parody of DC Comics and their Super Friends, South Park's own take on this was an alliance of Jesus Christ, Buddha, Moses, Joseph Smith (the Mormon guy), Krishna, Lao Tzu, 'Sea Man' and the Prophet Muhammad.

This episode saw the team of religious figures team up to defeat David Blaine and his cult the 'Blaintologists'.

The episode was banned after other episodes featuring the 'Super Best Friends' aired and there was a larger backlash to the depiction of Muhammad.

With death threats sent over other episodes, this one was also taken down from streaming and syndication.

This two-parter featured South Park's take on Family Guy.

'Cartoon Wars', season 10, episodes three and four

This two-parter showed us Family Guy as made by South Park, with the characters panicking over fears that the cartoon will show Muhammad (something they already did in the previous episode on this list) and provoke a terrorist attack.

The South Park crew head off to Hollywood in an attempt to stop the episode, while taking a few swipes at the actual Family Guy along the way.

Both episodes are now unavailable to watch.

These two got banned as well, and sparked a backlash that got 'Super Best Friends' cancelled.

'200 & 201', season 14, episodes five and six

With the episodes focusing on a bunch of celebrities led by Tom Cruise suing South Park over their depictions, the celebs agree to drop it if a meeting between Cruise and Muhammad can be arranged.

Since depictions of Muhammad aren't allowed and South Park had already been censored for this in 'Cartoon Wars', there was instead a big 'CENSORED' bar in place of Muhammad.
