Fans of The Terror urged to watch dark Stephen Graham thriller series about psychopathic killer

One fan went as far as to say it was so dark it made The Terror 'seems like Teletubbies' in comparison

We’ve all been there, you’ve torn your way through a new brilliant TV series and you just need something similar to get to next.

With viewers tearing through the AMC thriller The Terror after it was added to ITVX, there will be many looking for their next watch.

Luckily for anyone who finds themselves in that position, there appears for to be one unanimous choice for the perfect follow up.

Luckier still it has an insane cast of Stephen Graham, Colin Farrell, Jack O’Connell, and we have the trailer for you right here:

The show is called The North Water, and the similarities are obvious.

Similarly to The Terror, it follows an expedition across the Arctic, and has an all-star cast of British talent.

On top of that, just as The Terror was, reviews for the show are absolutely stellar.

With an average rating of 7.6/10 on IMDb, as well as a near perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 96 percent, if anything it’s seen a slightly better reception.

The most important similarity though? You can watch it for free, though this time it’s on BBC iPlayer not ITV.

With creepy dark vibes, many fans of The Terror reckon it’s the perfect next watch.

The series follows a ship's doctor with a murky past on an Arctic whaling mission in the 1850s.

He finds he's sharing the ship with a killer, and there's also a deadly plot to contend with which might just kill everyone onboard

One post on the subreddit r/TheTerror asked for similar series, with the top comment being The North Water.

Another post on reddit said: “If you loved The Terror season one, definitely try The North Water.

“It blows my mind more people aren't watching and talking about this.”

A third post said: “For anyone that loves The Terror, I highly recommend The North Water, Colin Farrell’s best performance in my opinion.”

Farrell is almost unrecognisable in the role, with the show’s director claiming he ate eight meals a day to put on weight for the role.

The show’s directing received a tonne of praise, with it being helmed by Andrew Haigh, who has since gone on to bring out All of us Strangers.

Rachel Cooke of The New Statesman said in their review: “Farrell and O'Connell are both excellent - something about the extremity of their location, I imagine, having pushed them, and all the actors, on. Their performances manage to be both highly physical and deeply, silently inward”.

In the review of the show for The Times, reviewer Mike Hale said: “O'Connell and Farrell are both fine, and the excellent cast includes Stephen Graham as the ship's captain and, in a small but assured performance, Tom Courtenay as its owner.”

Add to that an IMDb review of the show which said it made The Terror ‘look like the Teletubbies’, and you have an easy next watch if you ask me.
