The first traitor to be sussed out in BBC's The Traitors left the competition in dramatic style following a brutal banishment as she admitted her sister ditched their joint game plan.

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the premise for the 'social deception' show sees 25 strangers compete in various missions with the hopes of winning up to £120,000.

Among the players are the 'Traitors', who meet in secret and decide to eliminate the other players, known as the 'Faithfuls'.

Armani Gouveia, 27, a financial investigator from London, was the first traitor to leave the show after she was pretty-much outed by her sister and fellow contestant Maia.

The full-time mum, 25, from Essex told the other contestants she thought her sister was a traitor and told them she was '60 percent' certain, all while voting for Freddie in the end.

Armani attempted to defend herself, claiming that while 'statistics would make it more likely', she's 'not a traitor, so either she is or we’re both faithful', but was still voted off.

After her sister was left, an emotional Maia said: “Even though she’s a traitor, that’s still my sister.

“She is everything to me, so it felt so weird for me to betray her.”

With nine votes, Armani added: “I have had the best time, I would not have chosen to be any different because it’s genuinely just who I am.

“Genuinely so grateful for the time, you guys are all amazing.

“I love you all, I am a traitor.”

In an interview with This Morning, the elder sister said her sibling completely dropped their original plan to work together.

"I knew it was the end of me. She said [she was] 60 percent [sure I was a Traitor] – you stab me once, and then you twist it in," she said.

"We did [have a game plan]. She forgot. She would take one side of the room, I would take the other, and then we could come back and give our information to each other."

Despite feeling betrayed, Armani said she still wants Maia to win, only if she splits the money with her.

"Obviously, I would love my sister to win and then give me back half the money," she quipped.

On if she would have played the game differently in hindsight, the Cardiff native said: "I want to say that I would, but I don’t know if I could – that’s the problem really."

Commenting on the incident, one fan tweeted: "Armani getting banished. Comparisons to Harold shipman. Sisters turning on one another. Accusations flying left, right, and centre. That episode was cinematic!"

"The cruel Armani, drowning in accusations, turned against by her own sister, backstabbed by her fellow traitor & banished in a dreadful boohoo two-piece? *mwah* #TheTraitors," a second penned.

The next episode of The Traitors will be on Wednesday 8 January at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
