Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Traitors.

The new year has been a busy one for TV fans but after Stranger Things came to a dramatic end, we didn't have much time to wait until The Traitors was back on our screens.

It doesn't feel long since seeing contestants in the Scottish castle for a dramatic couple of weeks, as the Faithfuls desperately try to figure out who the Traitors in the building are.

Of course, that's thanks to the first ever celebrity iteration of the show, which hilariously saw Alan Carr triumph as the solo Traitor despite many red faces and jokes during the series.

While he joked that he was a worse traitor than the iconic Linda, who starred in season three, there's technically now a new name in the running for 'the worst Traitor' in the history of The Traitors.

Hugo found himself booted off last night's (3 January) episode in only the second banishment of the series, after an outburst at the breakfast table aroused suspicion from his fellow barrister, Harriet.

She eloquently dismantled him at the round table and he was sent home from the castle, with fellow Traitors Rachel and Stephen both also likely to face some heat next week after lingering close to the family tree, which will be used to determine their next murder victim.

However, this series saw presenter Claudia Winkleman introduce a new aspect, which is the 'Secret Traitor', who would know the Traitors' identities and of course the Faithfuls as well.

But the normal Traitors wouldn't know who they were and in fact, neither would the audience, with the shortlist of names to be murdered, the only way we've seen so far of being able to narrow down who it could be.

But fans of the show have been keeping a close eye on proceedings to work out any clues, with a lot of eyes on female contestants, especially after the shortlist seemed to feature primarily men.

One name on a lot of fans' lips is psychologist Ellie, particularly after one of her quotes in the most recent episode.

In a confessional, Ellie said: "People will question whether you are sitting and watching as a kind of Secret Traitor."

Considering the Faithfuls aren't aware of any Secret Traitor within the game, this certainly seems like an interesting choice of words, and some fans think she might have just let her real role slip.

On X, one viewer wrote: "Fully convinced Ellie is the Secret Traitor… she’s a little too good at this."

Another added: "Ellie saying 'don’t want to look like a secret traitor' as a faithful who don’t know about a secret traitor??? Suspicious wording."

A third said: "Did Ellie accidentally reveal she knows about a ‘secret traitor’?"

We'll have to stay tuned to see if this was an actual clue to the Secret Traitor's identity or a clever move from the producers to throw us all off.

As the public, we still don't know if we will find out their identity next week but Stephen and Rachel certainly will after completing a secret mission in the final moments of last night's episode.

Season four of The Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.
