A sex therapist who sleeps with her clients has appeared on This Morning to discuss her job in which she acts as a ‘surrogate partner’.

The bizarre profession became known to a far wider audience last year due to Channel 4’s Virgin Island, in which a group of virgins engage in sexual therapy with 'sex surrogate' partners.

Surrogate partners will sometimes actually sleep with their clients and engage in intimacy to teach them about sex.

Kaly Miller appeared on This Morning, where she explained that she almost ended up in the profession by accident, having been working as a remedial sports massage therapist.

She spoke on the TV show and described being in her late 30s and having studied psychosexuality, and ‘realising how much she didn’t know’ about her ‘understanding of her own humanity’.

Kaly described seeing an advert for ‘open-minded body workers’ and later discovering it was about becoming a sexual surrogate partner.

Speaking about what made her understand the career change and want to do the job, she cited her first-ever client. She explained they were ‘an incredible person who had spent their lives very shy, very awkward, never really progressing into any intimacy’.

They were in their mid-60s, and she said: "I asked, 'Why are you here? What brought you to this?' and I didn't expect the depth of the answer, 'I don't want to die without knowing what love feels like'".

She explained that he would often go to the corner shop with coins, specifically so his hands could brush against someone else, and that he would often 'imagine' life with a woman who'd walked past him, but would never have the confidence to approach.

The sentence 'flew through' her, as Kaly added: "I knew then and there, this is where I am at, and this is where I am in the right space. This is what I was born for."

She added: "It was very interesting because of the age gap, he was telling me stories about his upbringing, which is once upon a time.

"There was no VHS, no devices, if you wanted to have access to naughty things you went to [shops] and hid it in your jacket hoping nobody would see you

"He went to the movies, which was very laced with shame, so he had a relationship with intimacy that was formulated in his mind as something that was shameful."

She worked with him for a full year, at the end of which he was able to get into an intimate relationship.

Discussing her job, she said: "I was not expecting it, I don't think anyone sits at home and says, 'I'm going to be a surrogate partner' - I think everyone is taken on a journey."

Speaking previously to Tyla about working with a client who is a virgin, she explained the process, saying: “If I am working with a male client who is a virgin, the only relationship he has had with sex is his hands, and the only relationship he has visually is with pornography.

“He has learned how to respond to this is with a tight grip and fast movement. So when a client is introduced to my touch, they don't like it.

“Because my hands are not touching with the same strength, and they cannot relate to that. They have no control over what's happening.

“It takes a lot of time focusing on the non-sexual sensation of touch, and then the client is taught how to explore sensual and erotic touch while learning to control that urge.”

Kaly admitted to having slept with over 400 clients, describing how even just discussing the topic brought back a ‘myriad of memories of magical moments’.

She stated that several are now married or have their own partners, and surprisingly, Kaly stated that she herself had a partner when she started the job.

Whilst many would expect there to be jealousy, she said that they understood her work, adding that ‘they cannot question what I’m doing’ because ‘my journey is their journey’.

She also added that her friends and family are her ‘number one fans’ who messaged her excited about her appearing on the ITV show.

Kaly said: "My kids are at home watching, my kids and my parents are my number ones fans, and certainly my dad.

"My mum's reaction when I explained to them what I was working as was, 'I think I would be a really good surrogate partner!'"
